STM's: Help 3m Clothing

Hi ladies! The clothes are stressing me out. :P

I need advice on 3m clothing. This may be a silly question but I have no clue. We have received over 30 items of clothing that are 3m sizes as gifts. I know there is no way to be sure how long a baby will fit 3m clothing but over 30 items seems like so much.

So should I try to exchange for larger sizes now?

Or leave tags on and wait and see once the baby gets here?

Re: STM's: Help 3m Clothing

  • What does the 30 items consist of? If its 30 outfits or sleepers that's a bit much but if its like 15 onesies 5 pants 10 sleepers or something like that you will use it all.
  • Loading the player...
  • You'll prob go thru 3ish outfits a day, on average. You'll e doing wash maybe 2 times per week (baby clothes only)....i would return for a bigger size and keep maybe 15-20 outfits. They grow so fast. That's just what I would do. Actually, what I will do this time around. I washed everything and DS wore the same crap bc it was at the top of his drawers!

  • I would say it's mostly outfits, some onesies, and a few sleepers.

  • For our 3m collection we have 15short sleeve onesies, 10long sleeve, 8 pants, 10 sleepers and 2 coats.
  • Take a look at some of the stuff too.  3m stuff can run small (0-3 months) or bigger (3-6 months).  You might not have as much as you think.

  • Definitely look at fit first. But from 0-3 months DS was mostly in sleepers and easy outfits. Anything that was not easy to get on and off was exchanged for a larger size. Getting a jean jacket on a 2 month old is cute once, but not practical.
  • This is just a random note.  I hated 3 month outfits with hoods.  They are on their backs so much at that point and in the carseat, etc. that it seemed very uncomfortable and impractical to have hoods that were under their neck all the time.  So, although cute, I would automatically return anything in that size with a hood.

  • Chances are you won't need that many outfits. Baby will be in onesies/sleepers more than full-blown outfits most days. I agree w/the fit suggestion, though. Some brands run small and some run big, so you might be able to stretch those out for longer.

I'd keep the tags on and return them as you see fit once baby arrives. If you have several outfits that are similar looking and similarly sized, you could probably return some of those now.

Babies go through a lot of clothes, so it's nice, though not essential, to have some variety.

  • Yeah my DD lived in her sleepers for the first few months except for like special outings or so that she could be seen in this or that cute outfit that so and so bought her. I do remember though that I think she stayed in her 3 month clothes the longest. But it also depends on how big your baby is, mine was 6 lbs 12 oz at birth, so she was in newborn clothes for awhile. There were certain sizes she seemed to like "skip" and I remember her staying in the 3 month clothes awhile. Also, Carter's 3 month clothing is a 0-3 month type size so if you have a big baby, he/she might start out in 3 month clothing, and outfits are a total pain in the butt for little babies. 30 does seem like a lot for one size though.

  • Thanks so much for all the advice. I may exchange a few outfits for more sleepers and onesies if I can. I will just keep the rest tagged and return/exchange if necessary later on.

    Thanks! :)

  • You will likely use it. Some things will be too small at 3 months and some will last well beyond. It's amazing how you will use it all and having more allows you to do laundry a little less often

Excellent point. Old Navy typically runs small, for example.
