Sleeping on stomach

My son is 4 months old and about he just recently learned to roll from his back to his tummy. I'm sure like other babies now that he has done it, he does it all the time. When I put him down for a nap and bedtime he rolls over to his tummy to sleep. I roll him to his back, but as soon as I leave the room he just rolls back onto his tummy. He hasn't figured out how to roll from his tummy to his back yet so I get freaked out that he's going to suffocate with his face down on the mattress. I should add that he has no crib bumpers, blankets, or stuffed animals in his crib. Just a bottom sheet on the mattress. Anyone else having this problem?? If so what did you do??

    My LO will only sleep on her tummy. She can lift her neck and has head control so we let her. The nurse that helps run our local play group said if they are rolling that way and you don't have stuffies or blankets to just leave them.

    My lo sleeps on her belly now too. I used to worry when she could roll from belly to back, but she had good head control. She can now roll to her back but she got to a point where she just wouldn't sleep in her back.

    thats why they make the mattress for babies so firm, no need to worry or flip him over he'll be fine.

    once they have the strength to roll back to tummy than you can let them sleep that way.

    All experts say that once they can get to their tummies themselves, it's fine.

    My LO also sleeps on his tummy. It's actually the only way he has been sleeping for awhile now. He gets more rest and is less fussy. He has good head control and he just prefers it so we let him.

    My LO as well has been sleeping on her stomach since I can remember, probably about a month old. It's the only way she sleeps and to me she sleeps better and is more rested! Now that's the only way she will sleep.

    Does anyone have issues with their babies spitting up while on their tummy?  LO is almost 5 months and after I nurse and we play on the floor, she rolls to her tummy (doesn't know how to go back yet) and sometimes spits up, even if I get a burp out of her.  I try to keep her upright for a bit post-feedings during the day, but MOTN, I wouldn't want her rolling her belly and spitting up...or possibly choking?  Am I over-thinking this?

    My dd prefers her side or tummy too. I just make sure if she's on her tummy, that her arms are up instead of by her sides so she can lift up.

    If your little one spits up from being on her belly, its mostly because of the the added pressure of her belly being pressed on. It won't cause her to choke though as gravity won't allow the spit up to fall back down. It's one of the benefits of not being on her back, it will just fall out onto the floor. The draw back is that she may just place her face and hands in it and you will have to clean it up. Yucky.
