C-sections

Back to work.

How long after your c section did you go back to work? I was only approved for 6 weeks of leave. I had to take the week off before my baby was born so right now I'm scheduled to go back after exactly five weeks from delivery. My job said that because I had a c section I could get approved for 8 weeks instead but my doctor would have to fax something saying that ya necessary. I had to move my post part in appt to 4weeks pp so incase he does approve it I have time to get my extension approved. Honestly I feel great and feel like I could go back but mentally and emotionally Im not sure if I can handle it and I really don't think my doctor will request the extension. I just got curious as to when you went back or are scheduled to go back?

Re: Back to work.

  • You probably won't be released from your Dr. until 8 weeks. I would call and talk to the nurse and get some info from her. You have to be released before you can return

  • I was only planning on taking 8 weeks of maternity leave total. My doctor wouldn't release me until the full 8 weeks were over. The paper work and all that comes into play if you are eligible for short term disability. If you're not receiving that then you should be able to return to workout with a doctor releasing you. Unless your job says otherwise. For short term disability I would have had to have a waiver from my doctor in to return to work before the 8 weeks.
  • My Ob wanted me out for at least 8 weeks. 5 weeks is too soon IMO.

  • Your c section recovery should be way fine by 8 weeks. I was at the gym and doing normal things by week 6.., but felt 100% better by week 4.
  • My doctor has released me at 6 for both of mine.

  • Iw old try to get the 8. I know you may be feeling better now, but you're also not working full time and doing 100% of your normal activity. Once you go back, it's really hard to take it easy so I'd ask for the extra time. I disagree with PP...even though I didn't have short term disability with my job in my state, I still needed a doctors form to let me return to work.

  • I was okay by week 6 with my first C-section. I was back at work no problem. I do think that mentally I could have used a few more weeks but I was needed at work and that extra paycheck helped out at home.

  • I'll be going back to work on Tursday, just shy of three weeks after my emergency c-section at 29w 3d. My baby is still in the NICU and as much as I hate the idea of not being next to him all day, my work is letting me take my FMLA time when he comes home from the hospital.
  • My midwife gave me 12 weeks off. I did not feel right after 6 weeks so I am glad she gave me more time.
