Is rocking a precursor to crawling?

DS is 6.5 months old and not crawling yet. For few weeks he has been pushing with his back legs to elevate his tushie into the air while doing a face plant. The past week though, he has been propping his arms now also so his tummy is off the floor, and rocking back and forth. Almost looks like humping, but it is in the air so it's not like he is humping an object. Is this a normal precursor to crawling? Or is he actually just humping? He squeals with delight, I really gotta get a video of this because it certainly looks like he is practicing something...

Oh I am not worrying about crawling as a milestone, he is only 6.5 months, just wondering about the rocking

Lol! My daughter does the same. I try to get a picture/video too but she's too fast. Mine just started crawling a couple weeks ago but she still does it.
