Period Poll and talk

So I'm on my phone and can't do a poll, so anyway, how old were you when you got your period?

I was joking with my NP while she was putting the paraguard about this thing lasting until menopause. Seriously, I got my period at 11 and I'm 31, so the paraguard will last until I'm 41. How much longer will I have to deal with this crap???

Side note: when I got my period, it was after school while I was at my grandmas. I told my mom when she picked me up at 6-7p and she was so annoyed with me. We went to rite aide and she was like "what do you want?" With regards to pads. I was so scared and had no idea what I wanted and just grabbed something with the new fangled wings. So girl moms, don't be like my mom lol

I was in 7th or 8th grade. Not totally sure which but I do remember an incident in middle school when I had to tie a sweatshirt around my waist

I think I still have a while. My mom is 53 & still has occasional periods.

Edit: but I'm making my H get snipped after our next kid so I don't have to deal with BC anymore.

I was 13. It was Easter Sunday, my mother had a hysterectomy when I was 4 so there was nothing in the house... They were so annoyed with me for having to go out before family stuff.

Another side note. Did anyone read "are you there God, it's me Margaret"? I was so confused about the pads because they required a belt in the 70s when it was written lol

@hijoi Poor little Joi! I can't imagine leaving my daughter in dark like that. I'm sure you were so scared/ confused. At least you know what not to do with your daughter!

I can't even remember when I got my first period. It must not have been very traumatic. I do remember that my mom always kept a big box of pads and tampons in the bathroom so I had already examined them and read the instructions. Nerd! Also, my mom is 56 and went through menopause this year. Her hot flashes made her so uncomfortable. I felt so bad.

I was 11 and I was babysitting. I went into the matter bath, stole a pad from under the sink, and kept on keepin on.

I was in 5th grade, and I was at my grandmother's house with my sister when it happened. My sister helped me get situated with pads that she had. My mom had told me all about it...like more than I probably needed to know at that time. She was way to excited for me :-\

I am a lurker, but had to post to say that I had forgotten all about "are you there God? It's me, Margaret" until I was reading this post. My sister is 18 months older than me, and every night before bed for several months when I was about 11 we did the "I must, I must, I must increase my bust" chant and excercise. We joke now that it worked for her but not so much for me. And when I was pregnant but hadnt told her yet she jokingly asked if I had been doing the chant because my boobs seemed to double in size overnight.

I was 12. I think it started after school. My mom got me taken care of with pads and whatnot. She also answered all my questions, she was pretty calm about it all. I cried a little and said, well this sucks. She pretty much was like yup sucks and nobody really likes it.

I'm glad she didn't cheer or make a big deal of it. I do remember begging her not to tell my dad. I thought him knowing would be soo embarrassing!

I got mine at a play practice when I was 13. It sucked. I didn't tell my mom because she neverre ally told me about it, so I "figured it out" on my own. Used the pads we had at the house, and I think my mom finally figured it out when I was having trouble flushing a humongous pad. Didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that.

A few months later, I went to myrtle beach with my BFF and her family. Our moms were chatting and figured out that we were both due to get AF while there. They decided it would be a great time for us to figure out tampons. They bought us a box and told there were directions in the box. So, it happened. I cried trying to figure out the damn tampons ... ended up giving up and wearing a pad with my bathing suit. It was awful and super absorbent. Ugh.

I was 12. It happened when I was in gym class. My teacher was the big, burly stereotypical gym teacher too. I was so embarrassed to ask her for a pad.

I cried when I told my mom. She went to the store and got pads for teens.

I was 11 too and my mom was very accommodating (thankfully). We were four girls, so I guess she had to be that way when it came to girly stuff. I remember very distinctly though, it was after school (thank goodness) and I immediately told her NOT TO TELL MY DAD! I don't know why, but I didn't want him to know.

I was 13 and got it at school. It looked like someone tried to murder me in my crotch. I had to tie my jacket around my waist so I could walk to the office and call my dad to come pick me up. He was like "whats wrong" me: "im sick" dad: "what do you mean sick?" me: "DAD.Just.come.get.me!" I think he realized what it was after that.
