My nephew is a type 1 diabetic and has been struggling with keeping his numbers even a little stable since he's started going through puberty. To top it all off, he keeps having awful chest pains and tonight my parents took him back to the ER because he said it felt like his heart had pellets going off in it and that it would beat really fast and then just stop before resuming a regular heartbeat. They haven't found any reason for his chest pain the past and tonight the EKG came back normal (although my dad said it seemed a little off, just not enough to worry about). Then they thought it was his lungs because he has really bad asthma but x-rays showed that his lungs were clear.

Anyway, looking for some thoughts and prayers that they figure out what is going on with him and soon

Thank you ladies. I guess now they're thinking he pulled the muscle at his sternum. My mom says Motrin seems to be helping so maybe they found the issue.

T&P's! Has he been diagnosed with a heart murmur? I had similar symptoms as a child and that was the diagnosis. My father has one that was quite severe when he was a child.

His doctor and my parents want to put him on a pump but lately he won't eat all his carbs at lunch (if he eats any at all) but he still gives himself his shot. He's had multiple talks about it and my parents have talked with his teacher about making sure his whole lunch is gone before he does anything else. So my parents are wary of doing it when he won't take care of himself like he needs to.

Also, I told my parents what you informed me of that could be causing the chest/heart pain and my mom thinks maybe that's what's happening because when his numbers stabilized, the pain went away. So thanks for that!

Yeah, my brother tore the muscle at his sternum while working and he thought he was having a heart attack. He scars really quickly and he has a knot in the spot now.

And yeah, fitting in is a huge part of my nephew's existence. He has been bullied like crazy the last few years and having diabetes hasn't helped

Well, he's been good the last day or two and his numbers have stayed stabilized. Hopefully this keeps up! Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone!
