Winter Cheeks!

Well since the weather is PMSing, it started snowing recently. Yesterday I had to go the the store to get some things, well from the house to the car is about 50 feet. Then about 60 yards from where I parked to the front of the store. In that time frame, Connor got bit by the cold 30 degree weather and today his cheeks are red and dry.

What do you put on them if anything? I wish there was a way to cover cheeks and actually stay on (he will pull off a mask).

Re: Winter Cheeks!

  • T has rosy red, dry cheeks. The pedi told me to put vaseline on them. I use the kind with cocoa butter, he hates it but it helps.

  • A small dab of whatever baby lotion you usually use will likely do the trick. :)

  • I would probably use a light coat of Vaseline or Aquaphor. Hope his cheeks feel better.

  • Thanks for some suggestions. I did put lotion on his face earlier today, but it was still somewhat dry later on. It doesn't really seem to be bothering him, it isn't real red yet. I have to go out tomorrow too and take him with me.. should I slather on something before he leaves the car? lol

  • Aquaphor does the trick for my LO every time they get chapped from the wind or his night drool. I just started to put it on his cheeks every night to protect them from this, especially with the weather getting colder.

Vaseline for prolong time. But calendula or eczema cream from California babies.

I love the calendula cream from CB. I put it on LO whenever she gives herself a good scratch and it helps so much...bet it would work well for raw cheeks too!

  • I use Burt's Bees Baby Bee Multipurpose ointment any time L's cheeks get red. It works great and smells divine. Plus, no petroleum jelly.

  • Lansinoh if you have any left over from the early nursing days. I always used Lansinoh on my son when he had chapped lips, wind burned cheeks or that raw skin under his nose during a cold. It works great to heal and protect plus you know its safe for them to ingest too so that made me more comfortable smearing it on around his mouth.
  • That is true about the lansinoh since he is always rubbing his face then eating his hands, I will see if I have any left. In the meantime I bought Aquaphor. Thank you ladies.

@La Olivia is there something wrong with petroleum jelly?

Petroleum jelly is a byproduct of the oil refining process. Yuck. Plus before being purified it contains carcinogens. Double yuck. They are probably mostly filtered out by the purification process, but who knows for sure. As it is a byproduct of oil refining, it is not eco-friendly, if you care about that. There are safer, more sustainable products out there, like beeswax.
