1st birthday party themes

I'm sure a lot of us are starting to think about or plan our LO's 1st birthday and so I was curious to hear what themes you have come up with. Lacee will be having a winter ONEderland party and I'm a little excited! I've found so many cute ideas online.

We are having a Cookie Monster/cookies and milk theme. My mom had a Cookie Monster cake pan that she gave me, and the theme just seemed to work. Plus, who doesn't live chocolate chip cookies and milk!

we're going to have a minnie mouse/minnie's bowtique theme...we were going to just do mickey mouse clubhouse, but sticking to just minnie...because we decided for her that minnie will be her fave disney character....and it's worked! she loves mmch....and loves the bowtique shorts too....

already been pinning lots of stuff...there's some cute stuff at oriental trading company...and my sister is going to make a cake...

just need to find a place to have it...and soon....and also figure out who we're inviting...and soon...her b-day is 12/20 which is a friday, so we'll probably do it that saturday....and hope we can find a place that isn't already booked for company holiday parties or anything.....

We also are planning on doing a Winter ONEderland theme. I am not sure how into the theme we will get though. I am really hoping we will be in our new house by then but if not we will just rent a room at the community center and won't do as much with the theme.

We're doing a girly dachshund doggie theme. Anyone who follows me on Instagram know that we love Doxie dogs at our house! I found an adorable cupcake Doxie cake idea on Pinterest and just ordered her an adorable festive tee on etsy. I'm going to attempt some DIY decorations to keep the cost down but that should be interesting because I am far from crafty!

I am so using John being a New Year baby for the smash cake photo session I have planned. I ordered a top hat, bow tie, and diaper cover with tails!!

For the actual party I am in LOVE with the Winter ONEderland concept! Still deciding exactly how I want to do it. My mom loves penguins so they may be a large feature. It'll be a small family party as I don't have any local friends with kids so I don't need to plan any kid activities. I am very food centric when I plan parties and I already know I want to do a hot chocolate bar, yum!!

I never thought of the WinterOnederland concept...so cute!

I am still deciding. DS love giraffes so I thought of a zoo theme...but I honestly haven't really put much into it yet. We have the date/location decided and have told/messaged all our family to save the date. And we have a cake reserved...just have to get her the theme.

We're doing a farm theme since dh is such a hick and DS will inevitably be just like him.

That, and I've sound tons of cute stuff on Pinterest.

I thought about doing a polar express theme since his bday is dec. 28th and having his party before Christmas, but figured most people would be too busy.

DD's birthday is the 27th and we are still doing it that day. It's also my brothers birthday so we are used to setting aside the day to celebrate.

Yeah, we're gonna go ahead and do it on the 28th since it's a Saturday and dh's family will be in town for Christmas.

MY birthday is December 28th. My mom always made a bigger deal out of the birthday than Christmas since it was MY day, but while in school it was IMPOSSIBLE to get friends to come to a party ON my day so I'd have my party before or after the winter break. After usually turned out better because parents were done with the Christmas rush.

I'm still on the fence about when to do DS's party. His birthday falls on a Wednesday but my parents and DH's parents are all retired or have that week off for the holidays....

For the past couple years we have hosted a winter wonderland in early jan for DH and my dad's bdays. We too will be switching his to a ONEderland this year in honor or DD. No presents, just tobogganing, skating on the river behind our house, hot chocolate and cake.

No, you're not. I will invite close family and that's about it. I probably won't make a cake because I don't love to bake and with working full time it's easier to buy one. I might get DS a 1 year old shirt or something but that's about it (well presents and balloons). I love to have people over but am not a party planner....themes never would have crossed my mind. All if the ideas sound super cute, I just am not willing to spend that money when DS won't even know what's going on

Funny thing about me is....I am actually an event planner. But like you don't want to spend the money.

just wondering, what are those of you doing that don't have a big enough house? local restaurant? vfw type place?

our house isn't really that big, plus we hope to be getting work done on it....don't really want to put it on my ils since they usually have christmas, as do my parents... and this will be just days before christmas

We're probably doing it at the church I used to work at. Haven't nailed it down yet. But a lot of churches rent their fellowship halls pretty cheap.

I think we are going to rent a room at the local recreation center. My house is just not big enough to hold my ils alone lol

We are in the process of buying a house (waiting on loan approval from the bank) so we may or may not be settled in by DD's Birthday. If we are not settled in the new house we will rent a room at the community center.

our theme is going to be one of DD's favorite things - BUBBLES! "Pop on Over for DD's birthday..." and little individual bubble bottles as party favors, etc.
