Naked walls: ideas needed...

What do you have or plan on having on your nursery walls? I got a few cute animal wood cut outs and LOs name, but the walls are still BARE!

Do you have pics or inspiration photos you can share? It feels so naked in there!

  • Can you show us what you already have up? I'd love to see! As you know, my walls are completely bare at this point, but I do have artwork I bought to frame.

  • mine will be fairly bare as well I think.  We'll be hanging the comforter from LO's bedding set on the wall behind her crib, & then we have a couple material butterflies (that also match the set) that we'll hang up on the opposite wall, but I think that's it really.  One way to brighten up the room though is with fun curtains!  My MIL is making us curtains to match baby's bedding set as well, & the design she talked about is soooo pretty, I can't wait to see it!
  • I got removable wall decals. Because honestly, I don't feel like putting in nails, centering things, etc. With the decals, I can reposition them as many times as I want and they still work. I got mine from amazon.com. They have a huge selection.

  • Well I did that artwork yesterday, put a post up, just striped ribbons and paint. I'm framing three maps, uk, nz and Aussie because LO will be all 3. I have some wooden initials I'm covering in glitter paper. And I'm going to design two prints, we're doing a space/travel theme. So I'm going to do 1-10 rocket ships and a space alphabet, a is for astronaut etc.
plus I have this left over from an exhibition
  • I hate the wall decals with a passion, but if you like that look I saw a ton of Etsy the other day, search for whatever would go with your theme. I'm hanging album covers and a huge Beatles poster in ours and I'd like to find some name/monogram prints to go in there too. Etsy is just too big though...it's taking forever to find what I want.
  • We don't have anything for the walls yet, either.  A friend of mine wants to purchase a piece to put above the crib, but I don't know what else we're doing.  I pinned some ideas on my baby Pinterest board, but haven't purchased anything yet.  What colors do you have?

We did this decal on the wall and then I added little chiffon flowers with rhinestones in the middle to give it a 3D effect. Then in the corner above the glider I have three of the tissue flower Pom poms.

She will also have a cross and and her name in wood letters (if we ever decide on a name) above the crib. For the other walls I will add some family pics which we'll take once she's here.

We have textured walls so decals don't work anyways. I'm not a huge fan in general of decals, but I've seen a few that are ok.
  • What colours are your walls?

Here's the pics I have to show wall color. Three of the walls are the sage color and only one is the cream color.

Sometimes lamps help! I'm going a bit crazy in that department and have hoarded three for the nursery so far; One floor and two table lamps. I may have to edit, but I really feel like it makes the room feel warmer and less empty without messing too much with the walls.

Curtains are great too, and easy to make if you have a sewing machine (or a crafty relative).

I'm also considering buying at least one of these to decorate with:

I saw that some of the reviewers mentioned clipping origami animals on those, and it seems like a cheap way to decorate while only punching a tiny nail hole in the ceiling.

Seconding decals, although they're a pain to apply and I find them pretty unforgiving as far as repositioning or reusing them.

Ooh, with those colors, you have a ton of fun options.  Would you want to go with the animal print theme?

That's a neat mobile. I haven't decided if we are going to do a mobile or not yet.
  • Those wood cuts are adorable! Lemme do some brainstormin'.

Ya we're trying to do like a baby African safari animals theme. Although I hate monkeys so I'm avoiding those.  Also, LO will have dual citizenship she'll be American and British so I'm thinking of putting up a rustic looking union jack or something along those lines. I just can't decide. I know I'll need some sort of shelving.

I saw this on Pinterest for shelving, and thought it was a unique idea (plus it is bolted to the wall, which is a plus):

I love the picture collection over the dresser. Maybe I can figure out something similar over the changing table?
  • Not sure if you would be interested but some friends from south africa sent some pics of young wildlife that I plan on getting printed onto canvas...Id be willing to pass them along?

I like that idea, too, because you can pick out whatever little pictures you like to go in the frames.  I'm hoping to do that over our changing table, too, because it is also our dresser (the changing table top comes off later).

  • Apartment Therapy is always a great resource. I like this one:

  • How about instead of a Union Jack, you find a map of your hometown and one of DH's hometown in the UK? You can pick a frame out in your colors to match or have one made.
That's a great idea! I was struggling to come up with a way to merge the two ideas together. Animals and flags don't merge easily in my mind.

Where did you get the Pom poms or did you make them yourself? I want to do something similar over our rocker but I'm afraid if I do them myself they won't turn out as I like.
  • My mom had this cool idea to order prints from Costco's art and image gallery - they have images for kids, maps, art, photography, and paintings.  The prints are cheap and then you can put them into frames from Ikea or Michael's.  My idea was to print a few of the jungle animal closeups and hang them in thin black frames with white mats.

I was going to make them myself (never tried before but the YouTube video seemed easy enough) but by the time I would have bought all the tissue paper it would have been more expensive then to just order them. I ended up getting them off Amazon for like $10 (the Martha Swert ones). Etsy had a bunch too.

  • The picture arrangement over the dresser is what I'm going to do, I'm also including a decorative square framed mirror to include in the collage since I'm sure the baby will like to be propped up and stare at himself.

BTW, where did you get the wooden animals?

I got them at BRU. The are Sadie and Scout brand.
  • Also, you can scour thrift stores for ugly art in cool frames. Then take out the art, keep the frame, and search Etsy for prints that fit the dimensions of your super-cheap frame.

    I'm currently obsessing over HeckYaPrints:
