So it's unavoidably slipping into winter coat season up here and H's old fleece that I swore was big enough to get me through this winter is starting to put the squeeze on my belly. What are you ladies doing for the colder weather?

  • SS over here, my boss had two March babies and had a bunch of great winter clothes (including a coat) that she gave me to borrow so I don't have to buy one.

  • I found a new one with tag, never used, for $10 at a local swap. We are in VA and I'm hearing it's going to be a cold on.
  • I bought the cheap maternity coat from Walmart. Neither of my coats fit and I have to monitor outside in the morning at my job so I didn't want to freeze since the last two morning have been below 40 here.

  • I tried to buy a cheap mat coat from Walmart and it didn't work out. I'm currently wearing an old jacket and just not zipping it. At this point I'll probably only buy a new one if I find a great deal somewhere.

  • Thankfully, I have a coat that I can button above my belly then it has a tie. Works greats:-)

  • I refuse to spend money on a coat that I will only use for a month or two. I might steal one of my husband's jackets if I have to.

  • I still fit into my winter coat at the moment. And my mom is making me a poncho which I can wear over my winter coat to cover up the gap.

  • My husband said, "Good thing you used to be fat!".... Yeah not the right thing to say. But basically I have a bunch of larger size coats from before I lost 50 pounds, which I hope to last me through the winter!

I lucked out and found a really nice maternity coat at a maternity/baby consignment shop. $35 and it'll get me through the season.
  • Right now I'm wearing my normal coats without zipping them up.

I ordered one from old navy for $31 though -- it should be here early next week

  • SS - I bought a non-maternity cheapy winter coat from Target last week. It gets way too cold here to not have one, and my layering options like my Columbia zip ups are rapidly coming to an end. Had to buy 3 sizes up to fit, so I hope it has enough extra room for the next 10ish weeks.

  • My best friend is letting me borrow a coat she wore while she was pregnant, but I never dress warmly enough for canadian winters anyway... so I'm not worried. I have a leather jacket that I usually just change the scarf on depending on how cold it is.. haha

  • My peacoat fit my entire last pregnancy just buttoning the top button, so I plan on wearing that again...

  • I plan on wearing one of DH's winter coats. Right now I'm squeezing into one of my winter coats, though that's not going to last much longer.

  • I have my maternity coat from my last pregnancy. We still have two months left so it's not a bad idea to grab a cheap one.

  • I am just glad that my husband is a big man and that his Mom has no idea what size he wears! Two years ago for Christmas she bought him a jacket that was way to big... It is now mine and it should easily last til Jan even though I look like a little kid when I wear it because it covers most of my body! Lol

I'm officially bigger than DH now- so his coats are out, and the rain in the UK would make wearing an open non-mat coat miserable.
I bought a cheap mat coat on ASOS.
I hate that I'll not get much wear out of it, but it's so cold and wet here- I don't have much choice!

I'm with you on stealing hubby's coat. He is very fashionable (I guess one of us shoild be) and only wears tailored coats slim fit. So I'm on my own.
  • A friend gave me a coat she was given for Christmas that's way too big, so that will suffice when I need it, which isn't too often up here. My Smart Wool is stretchy enough to still layer and keep me pretty warm.

  • I found a black maternity peacoat on clearance at Kohls right after my BFP for $20.  I wore it last night and it's nice and warm, so I'm excited.  I just need to find a not dressy coat for hanging out with the dogs in the yard when it gets a lot colder.  I have a toasty USMC fleece jacket that still has some belly room, but not sure if it'll make it until the end.

  • So yesterday I was out running errands (in 50* weather) and I see a lady and her DH walking.  She's wearing one of those knee length puffy coats and a hat.  Next person is walking and wearing a puffy coat and ear muffs (come onnn).  The last lady walking her dogs has on two coats and both hoods pulled over hear head...

Me?  I was wearing a thin t-shirt with a tank top shell underneath, jeans and flip flops.  And I was boiling.  I think my thermostat is broken.

  • I'll wear warm maternity tops and wear my North Face unzipped. I may have one coat that would zip, but I don't think I'll need it as I don't really plan on being out in the cold much.

  • My sister was pregnant last winter. She got a kind of wrap around/swing coat that she gave to me last week! :)
  • My borrowed North Face still fits and has a little room to grow. Last year, I bought a nice LL Bean winter coat that zips and buttons, so I'm hoping that will suffice!

  • I'm just wearing my down coat from last winter and not zipping it and wearing lots of scarves! If I was still in MI id buy a coat, but it doesn't stay cold enough out to justify buying a new one for just a couple of months.
  • I voted buy a coat, but I have one from last pregnancy.  And I actually got it as a gift from my BIL&SIL, so I guess I maybe should have voted SS ;)

  • I got a coat from the Motherhood outlet I really like it. It has zippers that expand the coat at the sides and can be worn as a normal coat afterwards. I live in Canada you need a winter coat.

  • I was actually shocked that my winter coat (which is amazingly warm) still will button up over my belly at this point. It won't close much longer, but it will do. I also don't plan on being outside for any length of time so I'm just working with what I have. I can't justify the amount that places are asking for maternity coats.

  • I had to buy a new one but that's cause where I live and cause I work at a school and we go out to recess up until -20.

  • I bought a maternity coat from Gap during my first pregnancy.  I used to take the train to work and I never knew how long I'd have to wait outside in the early morning winter for the train to show up.  And then walk through the city to my office.  It wasn't the prettiest coat, but it was inexpensive and kept me warm!  I will be wearing it for the 3rd pregnancy so I got my money out of it!

I had chosen bundling under layers but my husband just came back late from a trip to town with a jacket for me. I now have an XL black puffy jacket... From the juniors isle at walmart.

He said he hated seeing me freezing working the garage sale the past two days.

It's the thought and meaning that counts right? I can wear it and probably till the end too. I'm pretty proud that he actually tried and picked it out himself.

ETA because my phone cut me off and posted before I was ready. :x
  • I am borrowing a regular coat from my mom, it's a size up from what I normally wear. It's free!
  • I need to figure something out. None of my coats zip anymore and I am outside a lot with DS. I just can't stomach paying much for 2 months of wear.

  • Sometime last week my biggest coat stopped buttoning over my bump. So now I'm wearing DH's ski jacket. He's a lot bigger than me, even with the bump, so it still has a ton of room. I'm pretty hopeful it will last till Jan, and then even with some post-baby bump I should be back in my pea coat pretty quickly.
