Stink on fleece sleepers?

I have 2 fleece sleepers that smell so bad even after washing them.. It's only those 2 and a couple recieving blankets and a couple bibs of a towel material... Doesn't smell like milk or spit up but more like wet animal... It's so gross but I don't want to get rid of all this stuff. I was hoping someone knows what I'm talking about and might have tried something that works to get them to smell normal and clean again!?

Re: Stink on fleece sleepers?

  • I have washed stinky towels, etc by adding 1 cup of vinegar when you add soap. Always what's taken the smell out for me. Good luck!

  • Like Skalbrecht said, I have used vinegar to get sour stink out if dish cloths. I washed with just vinegar and then rewashed with my detergent.

  • Ditto on the vinegar. I have fleece zip ups and blankets that hold stink as well, I think it's just something about fleece and not anything to do with spit up. It just sometimes gets that wet dog smell. I think I may not be transferring from the washer to the dryer fast enough but the vinegar takes care of it.
  • Stupid laundry question. Do you add the vinegar directly to the drum or in the soap dispensing thingamajig up top on a front loading washer?

I add regular detergent in the normal spot and vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser.

  • I add vinegar to the drum and dilute with a little water before you put it in.
