Powder vs liquid formula?

Hi all- my son is very fussy tonight and we're trying to figure out why. We just started powder formula but have previously been supplementing the same kind in liquid. Anyone switch and have problems? I can't figure what's wrong. Other than a growth spurt and he's just hungry? He's 9 days today. He hasn't had a poop for about 7 he's so maybe he's constipated? He normally has no poop problems. Arg. So frustrated for my little one! :(

    We started out on enfamil newborn liquid, we then switched the the same but in powder form becuase it is a lot cheaper than the premade liquid. It seemed to really upset DS's tummy. Our pediatrician said the powder can sometimes be harder to digest for babies. So I then switched to Enfamil gentlease powder and things got much better for us. DS is now 2 and 1/2 months and is doing great on the gentlease.

    I could be wrong but isn't 7 days a long time to go without poop?

    Yes, 7 days is a long time to go without a poop, so that's probably a big part of the discomfort, but there is a difference in the powder vs ready to feed formulas of the same kind. We switched my DD from powder to ready to feed of the same product and noticed a big difference immediately. 10 days later she's doing much better!

    Shaking the powder formula to mix it with water, which obviously is a must, produces a lot of air pockets which can make baby gassy.  It is helpful to let the bottle settle for a few minutes before feeding it.

    Sounds like he's gassy. We use powder and once we switched over to the Dr. Brown bottles my LO isn't as gassy. In regards to no poopy diapers in 7 days I would consult with the pedi.

    We just switched from liquid to powder and I am using the Dr Brown mixing pitcher. It lets you mix a days worth and keep it in the fridge to let the bubbles settle out.

    I was told in the hospital and also from my pedi that powder formula isn't recommended until babies are 3 months old because they cannot ensure the sterility of the powder as much as the liquid.
