T&Ps for my sister pls

Last night I dropped my LO off at my sister's house so I could go to church choir practice (this will be my 1st Sunday back! ). I was explaining his feeding schedule and how to mix the formula when I noticed she was crying while holding him. I asked what was wrong and she told me that she had an abnormal cervical biopsy and needs further testing. She doesn't want our mom or other sister to know. She went on to say that she is afraid not only of a possible cancer diagnosis, but also of infertility. I felt horrible shoving my baby in her face!

I tried to reassure her that it may not be that serious and offered to come to any appointments etc. Does anyone have any experience with this? I honestly don't know what abnormal cells could mean other than the worst case scenario.

  • I'm so sorry for you and your sister. I'm not sure if this is what she had, but I had an abnormal pap once and was sent for a colposcopy. Everything was normal upon follow-up. It was scary waiting for my appointment, but it was fine in the end. I hope that this is what happens for her as well. Ts and Ps!

This happened to me, too. The colposcopy wasn't painful and they just monitored me closely for 2 years, but all was fine and I managed to get pregnant the second month of trying, so I'd say my fertility wasn't affected! Sending good thoughts her way!
  • Happened to me too! Thoughts and prayers for your sister.

T&ps for your sister. I also had the same thing it's called cervical dysplasia and my colposcopy was normal. Cervical dysplasia is pretty common especially due to HPV. Usually, the doctor will recommend colposcopy with frequent follow up  paps for the next year to make sure the results remain normal.

  • I know many people who have had this and they all have delivered healthy happy babies. Best of luck to your sister.

  • Thank you all so much! I now can reassure her that it is more than likely something benign and she will be fine. I appreciate the input and best wishes!

  • My sil had abnormal cells in her pap, turned out to be a fibroid. She had no problem getting pregnant. I can see how that can be scary tho. T+Ps.

  • 1/3 women has hpv and this can lead to abnormal paps. I had it and three of my blouse friends also had it. We have all had healthy babies and no cancer. The screening tests are very sensitive and often cause worry for no reason. She will just be monitored for 2 years with colposcopy every 6 months and if necessary they will do a LEEP procedure. The chances if it being cancer are very very slim.

I had two colposcopies and one LEEP. After the LEEP with moderate to severe cells. I had a normal pap afterwards. There are many steps doctors take in this kind of thing. I know what she might be feeling but what helped me was knowing whatever happens I was doing whatever I could to keep myself healthy.
