WWYD: International Travel and BM

XP from breastfeeding

I'm travelling to London for work and (thankfully) taking my 5 month old with me.  I want to take some BM with us for (1) the first day I'm at work so that she'll have something to eat (we leave on a Friday and I go to work on Monday) and (2) backup in case I don't produce enough one day, a spill a bottle, etc.

Total travel time from door to door is projected to be 12 hours.

My question is would you take frozen or fresh milk?  I would love to just pull some out of my stash, but I'm nervous that it will thaw during the trip and we won't use it within 24 hours.

Also, is there any way you would risk putting it in your checked luggage?  I assume it would make going through security faster, but there's now way we're getting through quickly with a 5 month old.

Thanks in advance!  And any other advice regarding international travel with a baby is appreciated!

Re: WWYD: International Travel and BM

  • I haven't flown internationally with breastmilk but I would probably bring the milk you pump right before your trip on the plane with you and keep it in a cooler with ice pack.  I think freshly pumped milk is a little more forgiving than previously frozen milk.

  • Thanks, ladies.  Fresh BM it is.  And @RVASC811, the snap n go frame is purchased and my boba carrier is ready to go!
