DS has been going through many phases of this for months now! He's been self-feeding since 6.5 months. If it's something he deems inedible (even though he might have eaten a ton of that the day before), he throws them on the floor. We "recycle" the food a few tries, but if he keeps throwing them, then that's it.
For dinner, I always offer him a veggie, a protein, and a starch. Usually he'll end up eating 1 or 2 of the 3. If I'm lucky, he'll eat all 3!
If he throws everything on the floor, then he gets nothing else, except 1/2 a banana as dessert (which he gets every night).

Ella just started doing this but not like a full blown spit, just a nice little 'I'm going to take this out of my mouth because it's gross' kind of thing lol
She does this but she is more likely to refuse it to begin with rather than taking it then spitting it. Last night she had chicken and broccoli on her tray and she was shoving the broccoli in her mouth and tossing the chicken on the floor.
I worry that I am creating a fussy eater because if she doesn't like what I offer to begin with, I usually find something else to give her. I probably should stop doing that.

You're just making sure your LO is getting enough to eat! I did this with DS1 and yes he had about a 1.5 year span that he was so damn picky! But when he got old enough, DH and I started enforcing that it's you either eat what's on your plate or go to bed. A few times he chose to go to bed, but he learned very quickly.
DS2 does pull things out of his mouth if he doesn't like it or something. I offer twice and then he's done with that.

That makes sense...it probably is something you work on with an older child.
B was pissed I made her sit down to eat once. I put the food in her mouth and she scraped it off her tongue and threw it on the high chair tray. She's done it again once since then. Brat attack.
