October 2012 Moms

walking

So I know babies do things on their own time but I feel like Alice is the only non-walker left. Not only here, but among her little friends too. She is a late September baby, and her mid October/early November friends are already taking steps.

That said, I am not actually worried about her development or anything. She does stand on her own, and she does walk with her push toys. She will walk when she is ready.

Re: walking

  • Non walker here too! He can stand independently, but hasn't taken any steps yet. Only 2 babies i know IRL that are his age are walking.

I mainly want him to walk so he stops getting his pants so dirty.

  • LOL I tell people I want her to walk because she is getting heavy and I am sick of carrying her.

  • Yeah you are in no way alone on that one. Olivia can only walk with a helping hand or toy. I know it will happen when she's ready but I too can't wait.

  • I wouldn't worry too much. DS1 was 14 months before he could walk unassisted.

  • Non walker here!  Blake was born on 9/25.  He's been cruising and walking with push toys since 8 months.  I try every day to get him to stand alone and he just sits down!

  • Ella is standing on her own and pushes her toys somewhat but mainly cruises :)

  • No walking here....er, at least what I would define as walking.  Henry has -- maybe twice -- taken three consecutive steps, but mostly he's a crawler.  He walks when you hold his hands, but I don't count that as really walking.  You're not alone!

  • No walking here! I'm so ready for him to though. I just had a friend post that her late December baby just took her first steps. It hurt my heart. My kid is 4.5 months older then hers (2.5 developmentally.)

ETA: He walks w/ a push toy. Doesn't stand on own. EDD was 10/2.
Henry has technically taken his "first steps," but I would still not consider him a walker.  Maybe you're friend is a liar :-P

  • No walking nor standing alone, but cruising like a pro. DS has the biggest smiles when he is up walking with his push toy (or any piece of furniture he can push around). We do play dates with other babies. 1 has been walking since 9 months, another walking by 10.5 months. Otoh there are also couple of babies not walking and they just had their first birthdays. One girl who is 13m is not even cruising, but she can point to named objects.

  • I am glad she isn't alone in her crawling. ;) I know she is perfectly on track. I was feeling more left out for me than concerned for her. LOL

  • Alexis has only taken 1 or 2 independently. I have a friend with a December baby who has been walking for a couple months and I have seen it so it's not an exaggeration.

  • Our girls are right there with Alice! We are also getting passed up by younger babies, but I don't care.

  • DDs daycare BFF (early October birthday) just started cruising.

While I do have a walker I will say this: it came out of nowhere. He had only taken a few steps, mostly just cruising. Then about 10 days ago bam! And that was it. So it could happen overnight. And I've seen lots of younger babies do it earlier and older babies not walking. His birthday was yesterday.

  • Yeah I have a walker too and she definitely just one day started taking off- but she's still incredibly careful about it (but we have a 85 lb dog so I think it's more self preservation). She's gotten braver just in the past few days. But she also didn't crawl until like 9-10 months so she was just cool with not going anywhere for awhile. My friend who had a walker at 7 months was the first one to tell me babies will all do things at their own pace...they'll get there eventually! She was always so encouraging to me when I was slightly concerned about Bethany's crawling and it's very true, just kinda shows their personality developing! My DD was just pretty chill and wasn't in a rush to get anywhere.

  • Both of my girls were fairly early walkers (around 11 months) and I wish they waited a little longer! Now all DD2 wants to do is walk, in stores, outside, in the bathtub, in her crib etc. She will not sit down!  I am constantly intercepting her before she starts crawling up the stairs, face plants onto the stone fireplace, wobbles against the TV etc. I much preferred when she sat still!
So this is to say, enjoy every stage, for walking will be here very soon. ;)
