Forcing DC to sit on Santa's lap

At the mall I watched a few moms force their children to sit on Santa's lap, they were screaming and reaching their hands out for their mom. ?It broke my heart! ?

A stranger asked me, "has your little guy seen Santa?" ?I told her no and that he can see Santa when he's old enough to ask. ?Then she told me her daughter is terrified and she's 4 and she would never force her to do what some of those mom's were for a picture with a stranger.

I think its cruel!

  • My friend has a 3 year old and he is terrified she didnt force him. He got his pic shaking his hand! (at a safe distance for him!)

I guess that's a good compromise if you have to have a photo with Santa, lol.?

  • Keep in mind that a lot of kids want to see Santa until they get right up to him. We waited for 45 minutes because Miles was fascinated by Santa...until we placed him on his lap. At that point, I was getting my picture. I think "cruel" is a bit of a stretch, honestly, but you have the right to your opinion. Here's our "cruel" picture. I better start lining up therapists ; )

  • ITA.....and i don't know about anyone else, but mall santas fuhhreeak me out.  i know some of them are genuinely old jolly bearded men underneath that santa suit, but i betcha some of them just like the feeling of little kids sitting on their laps.  if we have a family friend dress up as santa, my kid might go see that santa one day.  a mall santa....eh, not so much.

  • I always thought it was kind of weird that we spend so much time telling kids to not talk to strangers and so on, and then just because some guy is wearing a Santa costume it's suddenly ok to go sit on a strangers lap, let alone talk to him.

  • I wouldn't say it's "cruel."  My 2-year-old niece sat on Santa's lap only because my son was.  She was terrified and after a minute held her arms up to her mom and said to her "I don't like Santa."  5 minutes later we were in a store and she said "I like Santa!  I sat on his lap.  I didn't cry!"  It was so cute and she was so happy and proud of herself.  Granted we didn't "force" her.

  • Do you have any idea how many pictures there are in the world of screaming kids on Santa's lap?   There's a fantastic one of my sister that we love to laugh at.  She's not even in jail!

You put the kid on the lap, take the picture and they enjoy their candy cane and wait for next year.
