stm who have had prodromal labor...

Do you find yourselves questioning a trip to L&D?

All last night I was having abdominal cramping all over my belly, like I ate something terrible. It woke me twice in the middle of the night, and since waking at 5a, I have been having contractions/irritations all day. They are not timeable, because I don't want to be clock crazy, ya know? But when I get up, they get hard to walk through I'm exhausted and in pain, but I still am questioning weather to go or not...I don't want to be turned away, but I also don't want to be careless either.

I'm in tears because I KNOW what labor feels like, and its been two weeks of mental torture, ctx...no ctx...starting & stopping. Today, they seemed to have picked up in frequency though, not strength... and since 12a haven't stopped much.

Ugh.

  • When in doubt - go in...

Or like PP said, I'd at least call the Dr.

Yep, I totally know the pain the L&D talked about, but do you find yourself ever questioning your decision when the pain gets bad?

  • Yes. I have this too and it's so frustrating. I'd much rather it come all at once when I'm actually in labor. Mine have never increased in pain or frequency but sure make me uncomfortable. My midwife said it's common and as long as they don't intensify or increase in frequency then there's nothing to worry about.

  • We were out at dinner the other night and I was seriously begging for an epidural. I nearly went to L&D but opted to ride it out and things backed off. Now it's back to plain old B-H, 2-3 minutes apart, 1 minute long. Bearable, but annoying.

  • I have been having the same issue for about 3 weeks now. My body is making no progress. There are times - especially in the middle of the night - when I seriously consider heading in to L&D. Waiting it out, so far they've always gone away. Sorry that you're experiencing this. :(

Oh no my PTL buddy! As you know, this is exactly what the last  2 weeks of my pregnancy were like. I am a firm believer in if you have questions, GO! That's why they are there. I questioned every trip. But I'm so glad I went. Had I not, they never would have caught my PTL 2 weeks ago and make sure Jordyn got her steroids. And so when I went last week, questioning it the whole time, and they decided to take her, in was so happy I had made the previous trips that allowed her a better chance for health since she WAS born early after all. Lots of hugs girly, and GL!
  • I feel your pain...literally. I've been having abdominal ctx since last Friday. Sometimes they last 12 hours and occur every 3-4 minutes, then they just stop for 8 hours! This is my third and I'm so confused as to what to do. Today I called my dr and asked is they would check me real quick so I don't have to go to er. Maybe call your dr and see if you have progressed? Good luck!!! Any time now:)
  • I've been having contractions on and off for the past few weeks.

I was admitted to L&D for preterm labor 3 weeks ago and not this past Saturday but the one before that I had fairly strong contractions every 5 minutes for a little over an hour. They started getting further apart and eventually stopped and knew I wasn't in "real labor" so I decided to wait it out.

I'm currently 3 cm dilated (my OB checked yesterday).

It's been really annoying and painful! Good luck!
