Parenting after a Loss

WWYD?

I am in California at a work trip and I brought Jackson. My mom has him at night but my SIL watched him today for me from 9-6. Jackson isn't a relaxed baby he's very much on the go. I told her I would pay her for watching him but we don't pay for daycare or baby sitting so I don't know the going rate. She fed him lunch and I'm sure snacks. My question is what should I give her? I haven't paid her yet since I'm still in my meeting. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: WWYD?

  • I would give her $50. Most babysitters get $10-15 an hour depending on what services they offer.

  • I'd probably giver her $50 too.  Its what we spend on DC per days but not the $10/hr I spend on a babysitter when we go out for dinner.

Edit:  Saw that you said you already agreed to pay her (I was worried that because she's family she might not accept money so I suggested a gift card initially).  The going rate for sitters in our area is $10-15 an hour.  I know it seems like a lot considering it was a 9 hour day but I think if you are paying you should probably pay the standard rate.  To me, $50 amounts to you paying a little more than $5 an hour.  If you want to compromise between the going rate for sitters and the, "It's family, we should get a break" discount, I would suggest $75.

  • I just retread this. I was dyslexic this am and thought it was 6-9, not 9-6. At least $90.

  • I was thinking $50 based off average DC but I wanted to make sure it was enough. I know food was sent but regardless. I'll give her $60 since it's easier to withdrawal. I just didn't want to low ball. Thank you
