Too much BFing??

I'm pretty sure LO is going thru her 6 wk growth spurt. She wants to nurse constantly.... Cluster feeding from 7am til about noon for the last 2 days. I don't mind that part so much, but she's spitting up SOOO much. Prior to this, she'd occasionally spit up if she didn't burp. But now I can't figure out what's up. I don't want to stop nursing her, but I feel bad... It seems like it's bothersome to her. She will get all whiny, and cry immediately after spitting up - just for a few seconds though.

Anyone else feel like their LO is getting more than their tiny tummies can handle?!

Re: Too much BFing??

  • Are you giving her breaks during the feedings to burp? I try to stop DD a few times per feeding to burp her, esp if she's acting frenzied.

All testing shows both H and I are perfectly normal. Baby Nacho had triploidy.

I'll have to try this more. Until this week, I could tell when she needed to burp, so I didn't have to interrupt her feeding. Thanks.

  • Also give your LO to someone else to make sure they're really hungry not just smelling your milk.  But, unfortunately, that sounds perfectly normal for a growth spurt week.

  • Could it be a sign of acid reflux? Lo was really fussy and I took him to the pedi and they asked if he was spitting up when we were talking about reflux
  • DS gained 10 oz between his week 2 and week 3 weight checks, despite a lot of spit up. Pediatrician diagnosed him with reflux for other reasons and he was put on medicine, but he does still spit up. Pediatrician told me breast fed babies will spit up when they overeat. The time to be concerned is if it looks painful or they are not gaining weight as they should.
