Job interviews during early pregnancy

I'm about eight weeks pregnant right now and applying to other jobs that would have a "normal" schedule (9 to 5). I work until 8 pm four days a week. I'm not showing yet so I don't feel the need to say anything at the interview, but if I get hired how early should I say something to a new employer?? I feel like I'm being very deceitful...

Re: Job interviews during early pregnancy

  • You are not being deceitful. It is none of their business. Some people dont even tell their own mothers at 8 weeks. Keep in mind though that you are not eligible for fmla until you've been at a job for a year.

  • After 12 weeks and after given a written offer.
  • Don't feel guilty about it...they aren't allowed to ask and you don't have to tell.  I wouldn't tell them until you have an official offer but you could also wait longer if you like.  People typically tell their bosses at the end of the 1st tri.

  • I would say something at the point you get an offer, and negotiate maternity leave as part of your compensation/hiring package

This. I think some employers will appreciate you being forthcoming about your situation. I was 6 months pregnant when I interviewed for my current position and let them know prior to flying to Texas for my final interview. My now boss said he appreciated me giving them the heads up. If you are the right candidate for the position, it shouldn't matter :)
