Name post. Sorry, but I need some help.

DH is liking Braden Scott. I'm not opposed to it, but I think I like Braeden as a spelling better and my sister said that Braden looks like it should be pronounced Bradd-en not Bray-den. I'm not so sure about the initials though, or even Scott as a mn. And I know it's a trendy popular name and any -adens are starting to get old, but it's not one of the thousands we disagree on. Last name rhymes with Jello. Lay it on thick, ladies. What say ye?

ETA: Feel free to make any suggestions as well, especially for a mn. I'm so lost.

  • I like the "ae" version that you chose. Cute name!

  • I like Brayden. Braeden to kind of a feminine spelling to me.

  • I prefer the Braden spelling. I pronounce it Bray.den. I would probably view the other spelling as odd. However, I also think if you don't love the name, you should find a different one you agree on.

Oh, that does a little. Good point.

  • Braden =/= Brayden, IMO.  Spelling it that way means that it's a completely different name.  BRAD-EN. If you're going to go with Brayden, I'd at least spell it correctly or the kid is in for a lifetime of correcting people.

I see nothing wrong with Brayden Scott together and while I really dislike all the versions of Aidan, I do think it sounds nice with your son's name.

FYI- My son is in kindergarten this year and 3 of the kids in his class are Brayden, Jayden and Caden. Sigh.  As a Jennifer born in 1979, I feel bad for the kids.

@mrsjenni I  think the "den" in kids names are really popular. In S/O's group of friend's kids, theres a Jayden, Hayden, Hasten (pronounced Hays-ten), Breydan, Dreyzen. I know, I mentioned a couple that isnt "den", but they all rhyme, and you get my drift.

  • I agree with others that Brayden is my favorite spelling with Braden coming in second.  As a teacher I've seen a ton of the -aiden names come through but maybe they are on the way out/not quite a popular as they were 10 years ago.  If you warm up to it more then by all means go with the name that you and DH like :).

  • I like Brayden the best. I've never been a fan of the "ae" replacement in names...it seems as though it's trying too hard to make a trendy name unique. I agree with those above regarding Braden possibly being mispronounced often.
  • @ninjafarmerswife- I don't think they're on the way out...I've seen a ton of kids under 5 in the hospital with Jaiden, Aiden, Brayden, Kaiden...it was like 50% of the kids I've seen, it's nuts!

  • I honestly read the Braden spelling as Bray-den... so, I donno?  I like that spelling the best and of all variations it seems the most masculine.

  • I like braeden
  • @ac1259 Fair enough, I guess it was just wishful thinking that my group of 7 and 8 year olds was the peak of the -aiden craze ;). Two years ago I had a: Kaiden, Cade, Cadence, Jayden, Jade, and Jayda. The class next door had 3 Aidens.

  • @ninjafarmerswife- sad thing is I really like Aiden as a name for a boy- but it's so common right now I don't think I could do it-even if I was having a boy;)

  • IMO Brayden makes more sense.

  • Thank you, ladies! I really appreciate the input. I think Nathan may be on our list too (mn James maybe?), which I really like as well. I just keep going back and forth between the two. Sigh, girl names were so much easier, ha!
