LO will be 1 tomorrow and as of yet she not once tried to hold her own bottle. Should I worry? It would be nice if she could so I can have my hands free. Any tips on how to get her to move in this direction.
My little guy who is a little over 9 months also holds his sippy cup, tilts back the cup and his head etc. but will not hold his bottle. I don't think it's that he can't hold his bottle since I've seen him do it when I don't give him his bottle fast enough, I just think he prefers when Mama feeds him. It's comforting for them to be in our arms during those short times to be held and coddled and fed. However - I do also know how frustrating this is - especially when we need to get in the car and he also needs a bottle. I'm thinking that maybe one of those transitional bottles that actually have the handles might work. Have you tried those?
So in short, no I do not think you should be worried and maybe a bottle with handles will be the answer.
DD will be one next week and she won't tilt her bottle up high enough to use it by herself anyway. She does great with the sippy cups (esp with straws) so I guess I'm not worried about it because I'm ready for bottles to be gone anyway!
I hear you. I think we did a bad thing with using a straw sippy. She won't tilt the bottle or her head and she just sucks on it like a nipple. I put the bottle contents into the straw sippy and she take a sip and then throws it. If she weren't such a crappy eater, I would just let go of bottles cold turkey but since she only eats about two or three bits at each meal, I can't give up on the formula just yet.
DS was about 10 months before he started holding his bottle. It was more he wouldn't lift it. He could no problem, if he was reclined. Maybe try that? There are lots of different bottle holders you could try. Maybe she is having trouble grasping it?....If LO sees you are not helping with it, maybe she will get the hint and try holding it herself?
My baby did this around 4 months, but it was because my husband would just sort of let go...I was like, "don't do that" but she got it. What I really wanted to tell you was that I had a nurse who told me her baby never did it for her, but did do it for her baby-sitter and husband. Just wanted mom to hold it. So I don't think this is something to worry about.
