Lactation Cookies

So, I was looking in to the ingredients of these and while looking on webmd I found some info that made me question if all the items were safe.  The two key ingredients in lactation cookies are Brewers Yeast (https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-715-BREWER'S YEAST.aspx?activeIngredientId=715&activeIngredientName=BREWER'S YEAST) and Flaxseed (https://www.webmd.com/diet/features/benefits-of-flaxseed?page=3).  Both items via webmd say that pregnant and nursing women should stay away from them.  I know they tell pregnant and nursing women to stay away from almost everything but I'm just curious if there is anyone that knows these items are actually safe to take.  I'm assuming the quantities required to make cookies are safe but the information is conflicting so I wanted to see what everyone else thought.  Thanks!

Re: Lactation Cookies

  • Nothing really to contribute...also curious.  I've been consuming alot of both of these ingredients in my lactation cookies over the past several weeks. I just assumed since there are soooo many recipes out there for these that have been used for decades for boosting supply, that it was safe.

  • I've been using brewers yeast and flaxseed in my cookies for the past month, and I haven't had any problems. Those two foods are safe and actually very good for you. I am sure those sites put those there so that they couldn't be sued if someone had issues.

  • I added flax seed to my smoothies all during pregnancy. I have a healthy awesome little 3 week old. Seems ok to me. :) I have been eating lactation cookies the last couple weeks so I hope they are ok too! Not too worried though. I was recommended them by a doula who doea her research and has used them for years too and everything is great and she has perfectly healthy beautiful children too. I had never heard anything bad about these ingredients until this post actually. ..

This website says that it is safe but it will not add to the DHA content. (which you were not looking for anyway)

Thanks for the question because I never thought about it.
