It's actually Emmitt Smith in that case. But yes, I normally prefer Emmett.

I really like Emmett. It reminds me of the muppet (Emmett Otter) but isn't quite as obvious, like naming your child Kermit or Grover.

I really love that you said that! What are other 'handsome' names?!

I really like the name Emmett (this spelling). it feels really strong to me, and I actually prefer it to Everett.

I like it, spelled Emmett. I think it got some traction after Twilight. I'm glad it's making somewhat of a comeback.

I don't love it, but I don't dislike it either.... So I guess I am ambivalent. I would say its respectable, and I don't think of a backwoods hick or anything.

I like it! I think most people wouldn't have a strong reaction to it, kind of like a male 'Emma'. I think it is a more Southern name, so perhaps that is where a 'hick' reaction is coming from?

I've ben kicking the tires on Emmett too. I can't seem to convince DH or friends. They all say "Emmett Otter?" But personally I love it. Unique but not weird.

I've never heard of Emmett Otter, though I do make the Twilight association, its not an overwhelming one.

To me ... I always think of Emmett Till. But maybe it's becoming more popular and there will be less of an association. I actually know a baby Emmett and it sounds like others do too.
