Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Eating

My DS turned 13 months today. He's the WORST eater. He never has been a big eater. But last week me and my DH were on our honeymoon and our DS stayed at my parents house and ate them out of the house. Comes back home to us and just like a flip of a switch he's back to not eating. The only things he will eat for us is puffs, cherrios, yogurt, waffles and toast...Obviously I know he needs more nutrition but I don't know what to do. He just screams and spits everything out...Any tips on how to get my child to eat?!?

Re: Eating

  • I don't know, I feel you.  :(  DS2 used to be a great eater and he recently dropped his last 2 good foods -- scrambled eggs and broccoli.  He only wants grains and he's getting constipated because of it.  He will eat purees (and yogurt) so I give him baby food prunes every couple of days.  I don't know what to do or at what point to have him evaluated for feeding issues.  It scares me.  People say just to keep offering but if he is screaming and throwing food (mine smears it all over his tray and drops it on the floor), it is SO frustrating.  I wish I could help.

  • We went throguh the same thing a few months back. He ate nothing at home and when family watched him one night for dinner they thought we were crazy at how much he ate. We spent the weekend with family and they did the feeding and we sat at the opposite end of the table. Luckily when we went home the eating habit stuck with him because he must have realized food is yummy and he wants it.  Our daycare told us they often play games and don't eat from mommy and daddy.  He's not eating again for us, but I think it is illness this time around. Just as tough to process. GL
