Synagis side effects? Updated 10/29

DD qualifies for synagis and will receive her first dose Tuesday, which I'm happy about. Just wondering though since from what I've read it's different from other vaccines, should I expect a fever from it? DD got a fever after her 2 month and 4 month shots. Thanks for your insight! Update 10/29: DD had her first dose this morning at 11:00 and as of 6:15 still no fever or side effects. Keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't get a fever! The needle was pretty big!

Re: Synagis side effects? Updated 10/29

  • Same as above, we never saw a reaction to Synagis, although she has reacted to other vaccines. I think the differnece is that Synagis is an injection of antibodies, rather than a true vaccine. Good luck!

  • Thank you, ladies! I hate when she gets shots because she is so miserable afterwards. Hopefully she will do as well as your LOs!

  • I assume that you're giving her some Tylenol afterwards? Our pedi said we don't have to wait until he's miserable after shots, just go ahead and give him a dose so that he's not in pain.

  • Yes, but our pedi says to wait until she has a fever because the Tylenol can lower the effectiveness of the vaccines. Last time she was screaming and wailing but didn't have a fever so I gave it to her anyway. She must have been in pain at the injection sites.

  • we had no side effects.

we don't give tylenol after any vaccines because it can reduce effectiveness.  We avoid it even if he has a low fever because that means the body is working... we will use it if he is really uncomfortable but that hasn't happened yet.

  • Oh gosh, we have to give tylenol otherwise every time he moves/kicks, he screams in pain. It's not fun.

  • I didn't realize that it was antibodies. That's how it's different, right?

  • We've had no adverse effects on any vaccines yet (knock on wood). The Synagis caused no issues, either.

    My Wonder Woman!

  • Glad to hear no fever so far. DD gets her first dose on Friday so hopefully well have the same luck! I'll probably just dose her up some Tylenol immediately after to try to head anything off at the pass.
