Baby proofing is hard work!

So what has everyone done so far in terms of baby proofing? I'm currently working on the living room because that's where she spends most of her time. I have been blocking outlets, rearranging furniture, taping wires, shortening blind cords. Today I set up the baby gate and a barrier in front of our entertainment center. The rest of the apt is still untouched.

  • I have a 2 year old so I'm pretty much done. I can't wait to have large houseplants again in a few years! That was my toddlers favorite thing to play in when he became mobile. Oh and the dog dishes were a favorite too.

This, though Ava never got into things like our wine rack. I'm expecting that to change because I know it's not the norm.

  • I still haven't even started!

The best part is that I am participating in a university study researching parenting and injuries to children in the home. It's pretty bad that even that hasn't motivated me to start baby-proofing.
  • Aside from obvious hazards (anchoring furniture, shortening blind cords, etc.) we never really baby proofed with Charlie. We kept things organized and uncluttered and put away anything he couldn't have. He got into things sometimes (like the DVDs on the TV cabinet), but it wasn't a big deal. Its made it much easier when we go to other places that aren't baby proofed since he's had free reign of our house and learned what to touch/not to touch.

This time around, the trick is going to be keeping all of Charlie's toys with little pieces away from Ginny. Hmmm.....

  • LO can only scoot backwards and in a circle so I haven't really started baby proofing. I keep telling myself I have plenty of time, although in reality, I know it could be any day.

This is also what I plan to do!

  • We haven't even started yet and just do the "watch her like a hawk when she's on the ground" thing for now. We're going to start with a stair gate and plugging the outlets, I think.

  • So far I have bought the outlet covers, a fireplace cover and a surge protector cover. My LO is a daredevil and likes to play with the wires and climb the fireplace. he has no intrest in anything else right now.

I have a 50 bottle free-standing wine rack in the dining room that is FULL, and I am really not excited about having to move it!

I haven't even started babyproofing yet, but I know we need to do it in the next couple of weeks.  Yuck, it sounds like a ton of work.  Our house is fairly large and the basement (man cave) is a total death trap for babies.
