Not 2IF related: advice please.

Okay, I have a very long time friend and one of her kids' birthdays is coming up. Well, my friend is always been what I call "tactless". I hate to say it but she really does have poor etiquette though I love her anyway. (The friendship has been 10+ years and our husbands have a Bromance. )

Anyway- in September she celebrated her daughter's birthday. The child is 8 and likes to read. I bought her a giftcard to a local bookstore for a small amount. I put it in a nice card with a quote pertaining to love of literature.

Recently, while in the car with just me and DH the daughter let it slip that she LOST the giftcard.

Ok.

Last year, at her son's birthday I got him a very nice fleece pullover in our state's local team that everyone here is a freak for. My friend passed it back to me for my DS. When I got the pullover back I had a STRONG gut feeling that it had never been worn. Like I could just tell. ya know? it was perfect.

Now, the son's bday is again coming up and I don't know what to get him. At this point, I'm not comfortable with just money and I don't want to spend a lot because I feel like my gifts are not appreciated.

Thoughts ?

Suggestions?

How old is the son? You're being too considerate. The kids sound rotten. Get him a cheap toy from Walmart.

Unless he's like .. a teenager? Then get him a $15 GC to Amazon or something.

I swear my friend only throws Bday parties for the presents. Like, it's not the company and celebration. Idk. Does that make sense?

She had a baby shower for every child even though 2 of her three kids are boys and roughly a year apart.

I think you might be onto something with candy or dollar store. 20 bucks is more than I want to spend at this point.

One year I got her middle son something and she blurted out in the middle of the party "he already had that"

She should of bit her tongue and thanked her guest. Am I wrong?
Maybe it's just me. I come from a household that was trained to write thank you cards, put my napkin in my lap, and wait for everyone to receive their food before eating.
