Swelling

My feet and legs are quite darn swollen!!! They have been on and off but are huge today! They are so swollen it almost hurts to walk! I'm trying to put my feet up as much as I can but I'm a 4k teacher and needless to say I can't sit much at all! I'm pushing my water but don't know what else to do to help myself. Any ideas?? And when should the swelling concern me?

I'm 20 weeks 3 days with twins.

Re: Swelling

  • If it was me I would call my OB and mention it. Have you considered compression stockings? Those do help a lot. I never had any swelling with any pregnancy so I am not much help at all most I ever have had is my wedding rings get too tight towards the end. But Pre-E I believe they look for swelling in hands and face. I could be wrong on that though. It just wouldn't hurt to call your OB and mention it. Especially if it came on suddenly. But Even without the swelling I wear the TEDS (sexy socks lol) due to bed rest and I dont mind them at all.

  • I was in yesterday for pains that turned out to be a pulled muscle and blood pressure and urine sample looked good. I know they are both related to pre-e. Could my blood pressure go crazy in one day??

I will definitely look at compression stockings...thank you!

  • Usually pre-e is a slower process. But I suppose anything is possible. Trust your mommy instincts :) if your not comfortable with the sudden swelling it's always better safe to call and be ok than let it ride and be something. But really those socks do help a ton! Was your BP higher than normal yesterday?

  • I spoke with my SIL who told me that if you put your feet up and drink water but have no changes after 30 minutes to be concerned. Once I did this, I did have some minor relief so I decided to try to not be too worried. (easier said then done!)

When I got home I put on a pair of my husbands tall heavy duty specialty socks (not specifically compression ones) and they are helping. I will definitely be looking into compression socks!

I don't remember what they said my blood pressure was yesterday but they didn't seem to be concerned. Every time I go it's on the normal/low side which is actually strange for me since before getting pregnant it was always on the normal/high side!

  • My legs and knees feel like they're swollen though I think it's more just them being tired from carrying my fat butt around all day. Water and feet up is best, but of course if you're concerned call your OB!
