My sil read it she didn't really like it. Others I think liked it okay. I like good night sleep tight and found it pretty gentle. Both boys took about 45 minutes to fall asleep the first night I used it. They cried but I was with him and comforted him. Then they got better. They could put themselves to sleep in a few days.
Whatever you decide commit to it and do it. If you don't and give in stop wait a week and try again or try something else.
I read it and I can see how it could be helpful, but the process the book describes takes a loooong ass time (like I think she writes that 60% of people see improvement in a month). I didn't have weeks and weeks and weeks--I was desperate and needed a solid stretch of sleep like yesterday. So it wasn't what I was looking for. but if you have the patience, I have heard good things.
Like others have said, the book has good tips and the underlying idea is great, but it is a long process. Since the process is so long I think some people may see improvement just by their child getting older and growing out of whatever issue they had. I tried to implement the ideas in this book but ended up doing Ferber instead. After the 6th wake up in the night, I was not in the right frame of mind to try the no cry tactics.

Thanks for the input ladies. After not sleeping the past 2 weeks she finally STTN last night with no interventions. Probably a lucky night but she had slept through the night for 2 weeks before that, so I dont know.
