Diaper changes

My DS HATES to have his diaper changed. He screams yells and twists all over the place trying to get away. He will do the same while trying to dress him or get him in his pjs. I don't know if it is just that he doesn't want to lay still for a couple minutes or what it is. Anyone else's lo do the same? Any suggestions to try and make it easier? I feel like I have to pin him down with my forearms to get him changed sometimes. TIA

Re: Diaper changes

  • My daughter does this every now and then. I usually keep a small toy or two next to the changing table to preoccupy her and talk to her about the toy while I am changing her. If he has a favorite song he responds to, you could sing it to him. Anything to get his mind off the fact you are changing him could possibly work. Good luck.

  • LO does this.  It is frustrating because if she just laid still it would be over in a minute.  Like PP I have found giving her a new item to look at or singing a song distracts her and she will be still long enough for me to change the diaper.  I don't tackle everything on the table.  Once I get the diaper on I put her down and then wrestle the pants back on her a few minutes later.
  • DD is actually starting to get better with diaper changes but she was like that for several months.  I have an iPod touch and some baby apps, so I would give her that to look at while I change her and that would sometimes work.  Otherwise, I needed DH to pin her down.

  • I was having this problem too, but recently I've just resorted to changing him standing up. When I can, I stand him in his crib so he can't run away from me :) But otherwise, I just try to change him standing in a corner so he can't get away.

  • Pull ups or slip on diapers maybe? That's what we use at home bc diaper changers are awful in Hunters opinion

  • Hayden gets rowdy when its time for a diaper change and I just start singing the alphabet song or tickling him every now and then. He still wiggles some but is still long enough to get things handled.
