Bed Rest? (mono/di)

I am just curious what percentage of mono/di moms or even di/di moms went on bed rest?  I am 25 weeks, so far so good, and soooo nervous that i am taking my good health for granted and going to be surprised with bed rest at some point.  Right now we are planning on scheduling a c section for between 34-37 weeks (i'm aiming for 36!) but i'm unsure of how much longer i will have to get stuff done around the house.  babies are currently same size, same fluid and looking good, and i have had a relatively easy pregnancy so far with the only issues being and SCH at 11 weeks and vasovegal response issues (dizziness, lightheadness, low blood pressure) the past 5 weeks off and on.  i am concentrating on making it to at least 32 weeks but MFM said concentrate on 28 first, she keeps trying to get me to smaller goals so i am not disappointed.

just wondering if there were any warning signs or if it was a complete surprise to you!

Re: Bed Rest? (mono/di)

  • A complete surprise at 28+3 days after a positive FFn and shortening cervix. I felt great before that and still feel great after 2 weeks of bedrest.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!

  • I'm 21 weeks now, but was told by my OB that if everything went well with my Mo/Di twins we would schedule a c-section at 37.5 weeks, that being said, she mentioned that Mo/Di twins usually come earlier.

If everything is going great and you have twins measuring the same size without any fluid issues, I don't know why you couldn't get to 35-37 weeks. I also was told by my OB/Perinatologist that Bed Rest would only be something I am put on if we all start having problems. My twins are measuring at 25% behind at 21 weeks and i'm not on bed rest yet. At my appt on Friday the Dr. didn't even mention it. She just told me to rest as much as possible and try to take a nap once a day...

You are doing great, with your twins measuring the same size right now, that's amazing and promising. I don't think you would get put on bed rest just because you are nearing the end of your pregnancy and happen to be carrying Mo/Di twins.

  • I did around 26-27 weeks with my mo/di's. PTL, plus history of fetal laser surgery, which just ups the risk of PTL.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • First, congrats on making it this far with so few complications :)

I was put on modified bed rest with my mo-di's just shy of 26 weeks. It hit very sudden, no warning for me. We did have some slight growth/fluid discordance from 22 weeks onward, but my MBR happened because I went from no dilation or effacement to PTL, 50% effacement, and 3cm dilated literally overnight. They assumed the change was more due to this being my 2nd pregnancy, but they didn't want to take any chances with me already having GD too. We were able to stop the contractions without meds but they would come back with stress or physical activity when they lifted the order a week later so I ended up on MBR for the rest of my pregnancy. It did its job and we made it to 37 weeks and had our healthy boys via c/s.

    My goals were 24, 28, 32, and 36.

I had MBR around 30 weeks for lots of contractions and effacement. Before then, I felt pretty good, besides all the fatigue and BH (I did leave my job on the earlier side....was getting too rough being on my feet all day). Glad to hear you're doing well! Try not to worry about bedrest....besides taking good care of yourself there's really nothing you can do to prevent it, so worrying doesn't help...it just robs you of your peace today. Hope you have a nice long and "boring" rest of your pregnancy! :)

ETA: I had mo/dis as well. They had a growth discordance, which they got monitored for throughout the pregnancy, but I was never told to restrict activity b/c of that.

  • I made it to 29w1d with my di/di twins...still on bed rest at 34w1d. It was very all of a sudden, I was feeling great. They found at a routine ultrasound that my cervix was shortening and I was contracting but couldn't feel it!!

  • Yes at 28 weeks my bp started going up.
After three miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy we are currently pursuing adoption. " Born not from our flesh, but born in our heart. You were longed for and wanted and loved from the start."
  • thanks ladies... guess i should just try to take each day slowly and see how far i get.  i'm such a control freak/planner this is driving me nuts!

i did get layed off from my job at 18 weeks so at least i can rest/relax when i need to now so hopefully that will get me further along!

  • I'm 33 weeks with Mo/di girls.  I'm a teacher, so wasn't working during the summer, then the girls developed TTTS and we had fetal laser surgery the week I was supposed to go back to work.  Because of that, I haven't gone back to work, and have been able to just take it easy and rest.  I am not on bed rest, but also don't go for long walks, long days on my feet, etc.  I believe just simply taking it easy and resting when my body needs it has been partly why I've avoided any bed rest or other problems.  Listen to your body and rest when you need it! Good luck!
  • I had a very easy pregnancy with my Mono/Di girls (yes lucky I know). I had them at 34 weeks 3 days. I had planned to start telecommuting after the new year holiday until they came (expected due date was sometime in January), but my girls had a differnt plan, my water broke Christmas Eve Morning and they arrived just after midnight on December 26th. My plan to work from home wasnt mandatory but after talking to my doctor an hour commute to work everyday one way was getting exhausting!

Rest, keep your feet up and good luck!

  • I have Mo/Di boys and made it to 34 weeks and 1 day with no bed rest or complications.  I worked up until 33 weeks when my blood pressure started to creep up.  I was being checked every couple of days and during a routine check they discovered I was 2cm dilated.

Stay positive and take care of yourself the best you can.  Good luck! :)
  • My mo- do twins are a week old. I delivered at 38w 4d by c section after my induction failed. I never went on bed rest. I did voluntarily decrease my activity level by about 34 weeks. Also my severe SPD prevented me from doing to much walking or physical activity starting around week 28. But I never needed any actual bed rest.

  • Mine were mo/tri and I didn't go on bedrest until 32w, and that was because of pre-e. I slowed down a lot at 28 weeks (started only going into the office a few days a week) but I wasn't on bedrest.
