  We have a canon rebel and love it.  There are a wide variety of price ranges on the rebel and we went with the lower-end model (T3).  I have absolutely no regrets!  We have gotten so many beautiful photos with it and you can use it like a point and shoot or learn more about how it works and mess around with the settings more.  It is perfect for our purposes.  My husband got a second lens for Christmas.

  I am a nikon fan girl all the way. I didn't click the link but that is likely a good starter camera. I would skip the kit lense though and get a 50mm. Your pics will be way better.

  I love my rebel it takes awesome point and shoot pics right out if the box, but still gives you the option to shoot manual or semi manual. I use the kit lens the majority of the time.

  We have a Canon Rebel, it's easy to use and the pictures are great.  We have 2 lenses for this camera but the smaller one is pretty decent.  I know Sam's Club (if you have one near you) is running a package deal, camera, extra lens, back and a few other things for about $700.

  We have a canon rebel as well, but like pp said, it's mostly in the lenses...which ever way you go, I would buy just the body if you can and spend money on getting a good prime lens!

  I'm a Nikon girl and shoot with a D7000, but Canons are great too.  In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either, and you'll find a variety of high quality lenses that will fit either brand's bodies.  Canons tend to be cheaper, actually. 
  
  I second the PPs who say to get a prime lens (35 or 50mm) with a nice wide aperture.  Prime lenses aren't too pricey but are made with high quality glass, so the pictures are unbeatable...just know that they don't zoom. 
  
  The link you posted seems to be a pretty good deal.  Nikon makes good entry-level cameras -- I started out with the D40 and took a few years to "outgrow" it.  For reviews on specific camera models or lenses, I use DPReview.  Here's their review of the Nikon D3200.  For what it's worth, I've never seen an entry-level camera not ship with a kit lens, so if you want a prime lens later, it would probably be a supplemental purchase.  The kit lenses aren't bad, they just don't perform super well in low indoor light (which is usually where we find ourselves taking pictures of our babies).
