Hello to all of you other formula feeding mamas out there-
I've been formula feeding DD since very early on. I find that mixing her bottles up early and keeping them in the fridge is helpful with reducing bubbles and therefore gas. However, my DD is especially sensitive to the temperature of the bottles and won't take the formula if it's even slightly chilly from the fridge, so I wanted to ask everyone how they're handling formula temperature if they prepare bottles in advance and leave them in the fridge. Are you guys taking them out early to let them come back to room temperature (and if so, man, I envy you because my DD screams bloody murder if she doesn't get it right when she indicates she's hungry)? Are you setting the bottle in a cup of hot water (is it tap hot or simmering from the stove?)? Or are you *gasp* microwaving it? Everyone keeps telling me to microwave it, but I'm so hesitant due to the idea of hot spots etc. My routine has been to prepare the bottles, then dump the contents into a cup, microwave, stir with my finger to get rid of hot spots and then pour the formula back into the bottle.. but this is just too much to do.
I have microwaved a bottle or two, just enough to take the chill off, but don't make a habit of it. Otherwise I use a bottle warmer. It doesn't warm it up all that well though and takes about 5 minutes which is far too long to wait sometimes. Setting it in hot hot water takes too long too.

DON'T MICROWAVE IT! That can cause hot spots and burn your lo's mouth
I have been using ready made from the fridge and my LO likes it room temp so we warm it with a bottle warmer. Mine is a hand me down but the front says parents choice so I assume it came from Walmart.
Keep one of those mini Crock Pots of water always on. You can put your bottle in it for a minute and then swirl it to get rid of hot spots. I don't know if the same is true for formula, but when you microwave or shake breast milk it actually damages it.
We make ahead and use a bottle warmer. If we are somewhere else without the warmer we just run hot water over it or put it in a container of hot water then swirl it around to avoid getting bubbles.
I also prepare a full days worth of formula at a time. I just put the bottle in a pan with about an inch of water and turn it on high. Once the water starts boiling its just the right temp.
When we used the pre-made formula, we heated in a glass in the microwave for 10 seconds to get rid of the chill then poured in the bottle. The doctor told me as long as I swirl it around to get rid of the hot spots, it was fine. DS never had a problem with it. Now that we use powder, I have had problems with him getting gassy as well. I think I might start making the bottles in a advance and heating them as needed to see if that helps.
I bf but use bottles occasionally... I put a coffee cup of water in the microwave for 30-45 secs (depending how much is in the bottle) and let the bottle sit in the warm/hot cup after I take it out. I go change him, come back and then it's warm enough to make him happy with no hot spots.
We have a bottle warmer, but when I'm at my moms house I microwave a mug of water for 90 seconds, then put the bottle in it for a couple mins and it warms it up just as the bottle warmer would because the hot water is evenly heating the bottle from all over, whereas putting the bottle into the microwave would heat it from the center out.
