Anyone not having a party?

With all the first birthday talk..was wondering if anyone else is not having a party for LO?

We just moved back to where my husband is from and so far his family is like no shows. Very split and don't even want to get started on my mother-in-law.

Basically it makes a lot more sense for just us to do something with her.

Which I have been thinking maybe a trip to the Aquarium here might be nice. We live in Oregon. Still learning where things are, but believe the Aquarium is in Newport. Don't know if it'd be worth it for her though.

Anywho, definitely want her to have a cake and pictures.

I already feel like I'm going to if I'm not already going to be an emotional idiot.

I think I mostly rambled on, sorry. :P

Any others not doing a party? I feel alone.

We're just doing a cake at Thanksgiving. His birthday is 2 days later, and our party would be mostly family anyway, so it just makes sense to combine them this year.

DS will be happy because he'll probably think everyone's there to see him, and we'll still do a cake and pictures.

DH and I decided that we'll do a party next year the weekend before or weekend after Thanksgiving, but this year, we'll just make it easy on everyone and ourselves. With your moving situation, I think something like the aquarium and cake at home sounds great.

We only have family for 1st birthdays. DD3 we didn't have a second b-day party for her.

we r in the same boat - her bday is the 23rd and we are going to the in laws for t-giving. We'll celebrate there with the fam. I feel so guilty not have one here with friends but as long as there is a cake and pics with the fam, I think that will suffice

I was planning on skipping a party and just doing something with baby and daddy... but as it turns out we have 40 people coming to celebrate.... It started with SIL offering to do a party when we said we didn't want to ..... and once you invite ONE person then the rest of the family comes (that's about 10 guests) and then the people on the outskirts start asking... and before you know it ... BAM

We are meeting at the marina for coffee and bagels (kiddos get gogurts and juice) at 11 in the morning... that's it

You are not alone. We are not......it will just be us and my husband's parents......plus a big ol cake and lots of pictures! I don't think we will end up throwing any birthday parties until she is much, much older. Have you decided on what kind of cake? I'm thinking of making her carrot cake with delicious cream cheese icing; it's a birthday favorite in my family.

@ksherwood my LOs is the 23rd too. Falls on a Saturday so will just have immediate family ... Total of 14 people in our apt. If I had a house maybe I would do more...I feel kind of bad but I know M will

@docluv I've been wondering about a cake...is it overboard to want to do something on the healthy side ? We usually do carvel .

My parents can't make the trip here for thanksgiving (18+ hr drive and they won't fly) but they wanted to come in early November for B's birthday.. so I bought some cute plates and plan to make cupcakes. DH's dad and sister will stop by since they live close. I printed a few invites for our immediate families (even though i know they cant come) and an extra for B's baby book.

That's pretty much the extent of our "party".

The carrot cake we make is...well...not all that healthy to be honest lol! I think the carvel cake will be a hit with your LO:)

We are not having a party.

We are going to use the money in a more resourceful way. (Sorry, flame me.) We will be buying LO convertible car seat. And, hopefully I can find a cheap photographer to do some family pics and 1yr pics.

We are having a family get together. I just wanted to say that I'm sure your LO would enjoy the aquarium. I took my son to the zoo the other day and the only think he enjoyed was the aquarium....I guess because they can actually look at something up close

Our 'party' will consist of DH, myself, the kids....and more than likely MIL and FIL will want to be there.

I don't get the big deal of having a huge gathering. He won't remember it anyway.

We won't be doing a 'smash cake'.

We will likely just do a dinner with the ILs. That's enough.

They (MIL and FIL) have already bought birthday and Christmas gifts. Dozens of them. I guess I don't need to shop. Lol.

Thanks everyone for responding it's nice to know that we won't be the only ones not having a party for LO.

I haven't really decided what we want to do for her cake. I was thinking maybe just a small round cake. Decorated rainbow themed.

I think the Aquarium would be fun to go too. I might do a little more research about it.

I have actually thought about doing that too. Just buying her a new car seat. But I'm such a procrastinator when buying such an important high priced item. LoL

Just get the britax marathon on amazon. Done and done!

We are just doing cake with grandparents and my best friend. My mother is very excited about making her famous chocolate cake for my DD to smear into every square inch of her body. :P
I don't think we will do parties until she has friends. I actually don't know any people with babies her age

All of my friends' kids are older. And I haven't had much success making mommy friends locally.

LoL, and I'm sure that cake will be every where. Since moving back to my husbands home state. I've felt pretty lonely. No mommy friends here either. Sucks too.

Is that the one you have? Do you love everything about it?

Yes I do.... Just make sure it's reclined all the way back and the
Blue line is level. We had to use a pool noodle in the seat crevice. Otherwise her head flopped forward while sleeping. It was $202 on amazon. But people here may have other suggestions. Was easy to install!
