Babies: 6 - 9 Months

changing table for older infants

DD is almost 8 months and she's squirmy and wants to crawl away during diaper changes. So far I have been changing her on the diaper change table but it's not going to work for much longer. Is there such a thing as changing table for older infants? where do you change yours? Recently I have been doing it on the floor because honestly the changing table is scaring me.
thanks!

Re: changing table for older infants

  • Since birth, we've been changing DS on our bed on a fold up mat. I don't know how anyone can change a baby on a change table with them facing sideways to you. His bum towards me is so much easier

  • I'm used to changing her sideways but I can do it in one direction only as I am left handed :)

She is used to it as it's part of her nap/bedtime routine so I don't want to take her to our room to change her..I was hoping to have an alternative to the changing table or I'd just do it on the floor I guess...

would changing her in a different room really throw her  off?? but to answer your question *I* personally have not heard of a change table for bigger infants.
  • Don't most changing pads have the strap and buckle you can use to restrain them? I know every pad I've bought up here does, although I don't use it and now just change b very fast on the floor.

    Could you use that?
  • Maybe give her something to play with to distract her?  My SIL used the tube of diaper cream lol

  • She doesn't like to strapped and I don't ever walk away from the table when changing her. I give her something to distract her and try to do it quick. But she's getting faster for me that's why I was trying to come up with an alternate solution than changing her on the floor.
  • We change her diaper and her clothes on the floor, these days.  I just put a blanket down to keep things clean.

  • I just use the changing pad on our pack n play. She still fits so I have not taken it off yet. Her actual changing table came as a set with her crib and I just use that for decoration.
  • This is interesting- I have been looking into trying to find an extra long changing table pad because DS is tall (30+ inches at almost 8 months) (side note- impossible to find). Also, he's strong, ridiculously squirmy, and is tired of my "here, check this out while I hurry and try to change you!" game... I like using the changing table pad because I can strap him in, but he's already shredded the bottom with his kicking... I don't like the idea of moving to another location because of all the stuff we need each changing. I feel like its a "meh" situation for me right now- but I'm sure things will change soon anyways- or, I'll figure something else out creatively. ☺️

  • our changing table became useless months ago because girlfriend is long!  We just put the actual changing pad on the floor and change her there.  She squirms all over the place and tries to crawl away, so I figure it's safer anyway.  She loves playing with a pack of wipes, so that helps distract her.
