Trying to Get Pregnant

Intro and a couple Q's for you!

Hi ladies,  I've been feeling out a few boards on TB lately and am loving this one.  I wanted to introduce myself and hopefully get to know you regulars better.  DH and I are both 31 and will be starting TTC in December.  Can't wait!  DH was in the Navy nuclear submariner for six years, so now he is completing his degree on GI Bill...we only have about 8 months left before he is done and we can move somewhere else, hopefully closer to family.  Currently we live on the West Coast and all our family is either in the Midwest or East Coast.  I am a house chef for a sorority on this university's campus.  I cook for about 60 college ladies, lunch and dinner, Monday - Friday.  I love my job but don't want to be on my feet all day past 27 weeks pregnant, which is why we've decided to wait TTC until Dec. of this year (end of school year is June 14).  Anyway, I'm so excited for the next chapter and am looking forward to sharing in your journeys too.

A few questions for you:

How long have you been TTC?

Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read and would recommend?

What brand of prenatals are you on?

And one for fun: Dream vacation spot?

Re: Intro and a couple Q's for you!

  • How long have you been TTC? Now into my 7th month.

Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read and would recommend? As PP said, Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. Great stuff there!

What brand of prenatals are you on? I just picked up some Rite Aid brand that were on sale. As long as the folic acid is high enough I feel like this is all personal preference.

And one for fun: Dream vacation spot? Australia or New Zealand.

How long have you been TTC? - Theoretically we've been trying since my son turned 1 (6 months ago), but I only just got my period back last week, so I consider this my first month. Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read? Taking Charge of Your Fertility for TTC. I read What to Expect When You're Expecting, and it was alright. For babies, I like The Baby Book by Dr. Sears, but it doesn't jive with everyone. What brand of prenatals are you on? I just take whatever multivitamin I find in the house plus folic acid. My OB said it's fine. And one for fun: Dream vacation spot? Greece Edited out extra text because I quoted twice

    Welcome!

How long have you been TTC?  We are on cycle #3 for baby #3.

Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read and would recommend?  I loved "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" for TTC.  I also loved "Breastfeeding Made Simple:  Seven Natural Laws" for breastfeeding (if you're interested in that).  I haven't found a good child-rearing/baby book yet (and my oldest is 3!)  The "What To Expect" books are okay, but nothing great.

What brand of prenatals are you on?  I'm on "One-A-Day" for now.  I just bought some Rainbow Light Prenatals to try.  I'll take a separate DHA supplement when I start that one.

And one for fun: Dream vacation spot?  Prince Edward Island.

We have been ntnp for 25 months with 3 months proactively ttc.

I get most info from online... I have 2 dd and I probably had books with my first but I don't remember which ones.

Vitamin is women's one a day gonna start geritol complete soon! I've heard good things about it in reference to ttc..

Dream vacation spot maybe the Florida keys with the whole family.
  • Welcome to the board! I agree with PP on the starting to temp to get a better idea of your cycles and sign up for fertility friend.

How long have you been TTC? We were waiting till early next year but now TTC is on hold till I'm done physio on my back. We have ID Twin girls who are almost 13 months now so we will be ttc #3 eventually.

Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read and would recommend? Taking charge of your fertility is a great resource. Pregnancy, didn't really find a great book.

What brand of prenatals are you on? Materna

And one for fun: Dream vacation spot? I would love to travel to Europe. And I'd love to go to Dominican or Mexico again.

    Welcome! And, ooohh, fun!

How long have you been TTC? 2 months

Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read and would recommend? I read What to Expect when I was pregnant with DS 11 years ago. I haven't read a TTC book, but I'd recommend the FF charting course and the newbie blog that's stuck to the top of the message board.

What brand of prenatals are you on? Target brand prenatals plus an extra 400mg of folic acid.

And one for fun: Dream vacation spot? I'd love to go back to the Virgin Islands, which is where my honeymoon was!

    Good luck!

    **siggy warning**  **everyone welcome**

Welcome and GL come December!  You may want to start temping and charting to get a feel for your cycle beforehand.  Many of us use Fertility Friend to chart.  I'd recommend checking it out :)

    @jessa8907  @Linny+Dan12  @megs2011

Thanks for the suggestions on charting...I actually quit BC in June and have been temping/charting for about 5 cycles now.  I just started doing the OPKs but that has been frustrating.  I've been testing 2x a day but think I might need to up it to 3x a day so I don't miss the surge.  If anyone has any OPK brands they'd recommend let me know. I've been using the dollar store and target ones. :)

    A few questions for you:

How long have you been TTC? This is out first month not preventing, in the likely event nothing happens this month I will start actively temping next month...or not.

Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read and would recommend?: I really loved reading "Baby Proofing Your Marriage".  It's a great book for both husband and wife!

What brand of prenatals are you on?: NatureMade Prenatals

And one for fun: Dream vacation spot?: Ireland!

  • Hello and welcome :-)  I am very new to this site as well.  I love this board, very good info on here.  Good luck come December! My name is Hanna btw :)

How long have you been TTC?  1 cycle, this month.

Which books about fertility/pregnancy/babies have you read and would recommend?  I have not bought any books yet...I've heard very mixed reviews on What To Expect When Your Expecting.  Some of the earlier responses listed some viable options I expect.

What brand of prenatal s are you on?  Rainbow Light Prenatal One :) One pill a day has 100% folic acid, 167% Iron, and 15% Calcium (I don't usually get enough calcium, so I have taken to drinking two glasses of chocolate milk a day also)

And one for fun: Dream vacation spot? The Plaza Hotel, New York, NY (At Christmas Time)

Thank you all for the great suggestions on books to read! I'm definitely going to check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

I've agree with many of you that What to Expect is only so-so.  Basically just tries to scare the shit out of you in my opinion.

My favorite book thus far is Bringing Up Bebe.  Love it.
