LO on dental plan?

So we're looking at DH's insurance and not sure if we should add DS yet. Also when did you take them to the dentist or when are you taking them? I've heard people say anything from 1-3 so not sure when we should take him. We don't have a dentist yet since we moved here so still need to find one. Will probably get a pediatric dentist for DS though.

  • Our kids are automatically covered too. I haven't taken DD yet. I was waiting for her 2yr molars to come in before taking her.

  • My local ladies all said 2 per pedi recommendations and then followed up by saying that they think it was too early and that it was more a visit to get the kid used to the dentist.

We have not added Alex yet, but plan to do that when we get the chance in case he falls and hits his teeth or has some other emergency with his teeth. I will take him to his first routine visit at age 3.

  • Caroline's covered under my plan, and we took her for the first time about 6 months ago only because of an issue the pediatrician thought we should get checked out by a dentist.

  • I have to add DS to my plan still. Open enrollment for changes is coming up so I'm still thinking about it. DH says not to bother yet since it will change my rate from $15/mo for just me to $35/mo for me & DS. Benefit is that ince I add DS, it will auto add all future children & not cost anymore. DH says when we decide to take him in for his first time, it would really be cheaper to just pay for the cleaning ourselves vs the $240 a year added to our expenses for DS's coverage. So I'm leaning towards not adding him.

We also have yet to find a new dentist for all of us in my house since our move too.

  • I added DD1 just before she turned 3. Our dentist does the first 2 visits for free (I can't remember what they call them). Basically those visits are just to get the child used to going. They do whatever it is the child will let them do. I took DD1 for the first time when she was a little more than  2, and will take DD2 around the same age.
