Teacher workday = intense intruder training

We had a teacher workday that was intense intruder training with guys in masks screaming with air guns. We had to learn how to tie our hinges with rope to hold our doors closed and barricade with tables and desks in our rooms while this guy was trying to get in shooting his gun. I am exhausted physically and mentally but i do feel slightly more prepared if the 1 in a million chance ever occurred. Biggest lesson learned never hide in a fetal position just start throwing stuff and fight!

    My friend works in the schools. They had an "unknown to them" training like this that also involved rubber bullets... Many bruises resulted.

    Wow, that is intense! But I guess good to know. The school shooting in Nevada today was just 25 minutes from me and in the same school district that my girls will eventually go to. That situation is terrifying either way, but I've been crying half the day by how close it struck.

    I didn't think so either, but he showed us what we are normally taught, which is to lock door try to hide under desks or farthest away from door. In Columbine the biggest number of losses happened in the library where the sub that day told all the students to stay under the tables with their heads down. He made us realize that you can't go down without a fight you have to be ready to attack with anything you can throw or deter with baricades until police arrive. He said just by having your entire class throwing something when he/she enters could save half or more lives. It was freaking crazy but man oh man some of the simple things we learned could be helpful someday! Hopefully not.
