When to tell ...

So there is a HUGE snowstorm pending here in Central MA that's supposed to start around 1 or 2. I get severe panic attacks when driving in the snow, never mind the fact that I'm pregnant ... my office won't close, we're open 24/7, and I am seriously petrified that something will happen. I am wondering if it would be a HUGE faux pas to pull the pregnancy card now, even though I'm only 5 1/2 weeks .... What should I do? I am seriously freaking out here ...

Re: When to tell ...

  • I think that's not such a great time/way to tell. It's going to reflect rather poorly on your ability to do your job while PG if you say you won't even drive to work while pregnant - sorry to be harsh, but employers can be harsh. Why not call in a sick day instead?

  • What if you weren't pregnant? My guess is you still wouldn't want to drive in the snow. I think its a little too early to use the pregnancy factor BUT if you think it will work then go for it. We are getting hit with the snowstorm now!
  • Can't you ask to take a 1/2 day, Sick day, Personal day, or something? I'm in the South Shore (Mass) and that is what I'm going to do.
  • I have no sick time & no vacation time since its the end of the year. In fact, the way my job works if you go over you can get fired on the spot if you don't have FMLA or something like that. I'm actually already here, and have already asked if I can get out early, it doesn't look good ...
  • BTW, I do hear what you're saying, though, that it really doesn't reflect well on me & working through my pregnancy and all that ... I'm just really concerned & I guess I'm reaching for straws ...
  • when do you go in? and when do you leave?

It's only going to be about 3 or 4 inches around 4or 5...just drive slow. I worked thru my whole first pregnancy (up til we moved). never called out or left early EVER!

I hear your pain BUT don't be that girl! What will you do next winter when you have to work and pick up the baby from daycare in the snow...?

I have all the faith that you will be fine!
