L is on one nap a day. he is very routine mostly in part because of daycare. he wakes up around 7:30 a.m. Is down for a nap between 11 and 12 and sleeps for about 2 hours with a bedtime around 8 p.m. I love this schedule!
DS takes one nap at daycare (3 days a week) and 2 naps when he's at my SIL's (2 days a week) and on the weekend with us. I don't think he's ready for 1 nap at all. I don't know how he makes it so long at daycare.
Two naps still whoop whoop! But she has been known to skip the 2nd one if we are out and about.
Just curious, how do we see the voting results for a poll like this? Or are they for OPs eyes only?
After you vote, it should show the results. You can't see them without voting in the new format, though.
I voted 2 most days, but I think we are coming up on the transition to 1. There have been a few days in the last few weeks that he's only taken one, and some days the two naps are fairly short or it takes him 45 mins to an hour to fall asleep (it used to be 10-15 mins). But a few times already I've thought, "this is it, we'll only get one now," and then he goes back to 2 normal ones for awhile. So who knows?
I think DD switched to 1 nap around this age, but she also pretty much gave up naps altogether on the early side. She is 3 and we usually get one a week.
There are good and bad things about only having 1 nap...I am trying to remind myself how much easier it is to plan things if I only have to plan around 1 nap and not 2.
I don't see how daycares do that. It seems inappropriate. There has to be a way to let the LOs who still want two naps take them.
Urggh. Naptime is my biggest concern with putting DS in a center now that I am heading back to work. Not so much the 1 nap because he already does that. But all 3 we have looked at so far lay the kids down on cots and expect them to just go to sleep. My kid is NOT going to do that. I told them I was concerned about him adjusting to this and they were like "you'd be suprised. He will see the other kids doing it and then do it too" Um no your gonna be suprised how loud my kid can scream and keep ALL the kids from napping!
I get that kids adapt and stuff but most of these other toddlers have been there since 6-12 week old so they transitioned sliwly from being rocked, put down in a crib, to a cot surrounded by 9 other toddlers on cots. My kid has slept in his own crib by himself after being rocked for 14 months can I get some type of transition before throwing him on a cot and expecting him to just cooperate?
PS. We are looking for an in home provider but haven't fiund anything suitable yet

Our daycare would let him nap twice if needed. Their goal by the time he transitions from the 1 yr to the 2 yr room is one nap, though, so they helped get him in that routine and he only naps once at home, too. Sometimes he'll fall asleep in the car on the way home but only for 20 mins or so

I freaked out when I discovered DS would be sleeping on a mat when he transitioned to the one year old room... and he did fine with it.

Oh I've tried, trust me! His teachers say they put him down for an am nap, but he doesn't want anything to do with it. He just stands up and watches the other kids. They don't sleep in a separate area so I could see how he wouldn't nap. He did before, but not now. I don't know if its because he's so busy there, but they say he doesn't seem tired either. But at home, he's exhausted by the time 9am rolls around.

In a totally different atmosphere surrounded by other kids doing the same thing, you really will be surprised! It might just take him a little longer because, like you said, he's starting later than others. I thought the same thing about sleeping on mats.
DD went on 2nd nap strike so we pushed her first nap back so it's like 12-2 or 1-3. She does great with only one! But she has to sleep through the night the night before for it to work.

You will probably be surprised how well he does nap once he starts. Daycare/preschool is very often a child's first experience among peers. It might take a few days but I've never had a child who didn't adjust to naptime by a week or two.
We put Charlotte down for two naps at the same time every day.
At daycare, she takes both. At home on the weekends, her morning nap is aces. With the afternoon nap, sometimes she just plays for 60+ minutes. Sometimes she plays for 30-45 minutes and then goes to sleep. It's random. She still needs it most of the time.
