Question about shower guest list

I don't think my family is planning any sort of a shower, due to distance, and the fact that i can't travel. My AIL & SIL are planning one. Is it weird/rude/whatever to have my side of the family invited to a shower hosted by my ILs? Attendance by any of my family is very unlikely, but I don't want anyone to be 'excluded'. (My H's aunt already was complaining about not being invited to my shower... When it hasn't even been fully planned yet. She saw a couple photos on fb of our gender reveal and assumed it was a shower).

Just looking for opinions-I don't want to come off as gift grabby... But I know my family will want to celebrate with us, especially after our loss and IF struggles. Do I leave it up to them to figure something out, or invite all to the 1 shower?

Re: Question about shower guest list

  • I would extend the invite even if it isn't likely that they will join.

  • I see nothing wrong or weird about inviting one side of the family to the other side's shower.  I love the ideas above for letting them participate via mail or skype or both.
  • Skype might be an option for a few, but the vast majority either don't have internet, or a slow enough connection that Skype wouldn't be an option. I know for my bridal shower, we invited both sides, even though it was also hosted by ILs.

  • I only had 1 shower, my family and ILs were both invited. I see no issues with it :)

  • Yes I agree, if the budget allows for them to be invited then invite them.
  • I would definitely invite both sides, unless as PPs mentioned the hosts are having financial issues. Most showers I've been to have had both sides there.

  • Thanks for the input! I wasn't sure how to go about it!

  • If mine were all able to attend, it would be insane (dad has 10 siblings, mom has 3... Plus all the cousins.) And that's just my side- H's dad has 6 siblings, mom has 5 I think). I'll probably invite all to the one, because I don't forsee any of the far away people attending, and maybe suggest the wording include something about me not being able to travel.
