potty interest

My DS is showing interest more and more to pee on his potty. Sometimes he will go a drop sometimes a little more and there have even been times that he says poop or pee and didnt do anything. I do feel like he is able to pee a little more and more. DH and I have been asking him before his tub or putting his pj's on if he has to pee. He generally says yes so we go with it. I really don't know if he is completely ready and honestly was not planning on training him until he seemed really ready. So...should I just keep going with the routine we have and letting him go when he says yes to going? Is this dragging it out or could it cause future regression? Not sure of the best next steps.I know every child is different.

I didn't think DD was ready but we put her in underwear one day and it went pretty well. She peed in 7 pairs of undies the first day. The second day I sat her on her little potty in front of a cartoon. When she peed in the potty I clapped and made a big deal of it. It seemed to just click then, she was like "Oh that's what you want me to do...okay." She's been using the potty ever since. She will have an occasional accident, but she does really well.

ETA: we potty trained about a month after her 2nd birthday.

When my daughter started asking to go potty and occasionally going in the potty, I decided we were done with diapers. I think diapers start to become confusing for kids when they're learning to go potty and it's a pain to keep taking off and putting back on a diaper. My daughter is 22 months and has been in undies only for a little more than a week. She's doing great at home (one accident the entire weekend) and okay at daycare. I think if you're ready to devote some time to it, you should go for it.

Thanks to both posters for sharing. I am still learning myself what is the best way to approach this whole milestone. I also want to be home for a few days to be consistent. I have a vacation in Dec. (I wonder if its worth waiting until then). Also, I thought I read somewhere that they should have more control at naptimes, therefore, having a dry diaper. Am I making this up or was this part of the process? I think it had something to do with them having more awareness. I also dont feel like DS always initiates it. I have been asking most of the time...hmmm more to think about

December isn't that far, I would wait.  As far as the nap time diaper question I wouldn't use that as an indicator, he may indeed be staying dry during nap, but peeing when he first wakes up before you get in there.  If he can hold it for two hours, which he probably can then physically he should be ready.

I would just keep doing what you are doing until December.  You want them to be comfortable/familiar with the idea.
