How many u/s's...

...is typical in a twin pregnancy? Just curious. I've also seen a large group of mamas who have learned the sex at week 16. Is that common?

I'm so new to this twin world that my head is swimming!

I've had appx 7 ultrasounds already and I'm only at 20 weeks. I found out the genders at 15 weeks - then confirmed at 17 weeks. I have had cervical issues, and when they're checking that they just take a look at the babies too. I think on average your first one is usually around 12/13 weeks and then you get one every 4 weeks after that. Then somewhere towards the 3rd tri they have you come in every 2 weeks, then weekly - but I'm not sure about that yet --- haven't made it that far!

I had about 15-20 I had di/di with minimal complications.

I found out genders at 15 weeks.

i have mono/di twins (share a placenta) and have had u/s at:

6w and 7w with RE

8w with OB

10w, 12,w, 16,w, 18w, 20w, 22w, 24w and will continue every 2 weeks with the MFM.

I think twins are monitored closer, but since most twins are di/di it's not as much as what I have had.

I had one at 7w, 12w, 19w, 29w and now at 33w will be having weekly biophysical profile ultrasounds until they are born. I also have a quick ultrasound at every dr visit to look at the hearts instead of using Doppler. Mine are di/di.

I had one every other week until I delivered (at 26w) and would have started having them weekly at 32w.

I had a dating u/s at 6wks and discovered mono-di twins. My OB is pretty laid back with low risk but I ended up with u/s at 10, 12, 16, 18, 20, then weekly (sometimes more than once) from 22-37 since I developed PTL, early TTTS, and GD.

I am just under 13w and have had 3. One was the optional NT test. From now on (because I am di/di) it's once a month until 3rd tri. Not sure if they will all be u/s though, but I think my OB said they will.

Too many to count! Started off every 4 weeks, then every 2 weeks then starting at 32weeks I had them weekly along with weekly NSTs (so, 2 weekly appointments). My fridge was loaded with ultrasound pictures. I loved it!

Depends on the pregnancy. I had one every other week from 6 weeks until week 19 then once a week to twice a week depending on cervical length from 20 weeks to now (currently 30 weeks) with 4D u/s once a month my MFM does them just for fun we got one at 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks, 27 weeks, and again another one on October 22nd those are my favorites. But because my MFM does them so frequently we were able to see gender early on and then confirmed at 20 weeks. I have di/di twins and beginning of the pregnancy I had my appendix removed also baby B had no amniotic fluid and slow heart rate. That resolved itself and then my cervix decided to shorten as well as PTL. Those are the reasons why I have had so many. That and I just have very hands on MFM and OB they like to see heart beats rather than Doppler since my boys heart rates are almost always within a beat or two of each other. My OB does most the growth scans as well as cervical length checks. I only see my MFM once to twice a month depending on my NSTs and cervical length since my OB won't deliver before 37 weeks hope that makes sense mobile bumping here!

I've had two so far at 8w and 12w. I'll have another next week for our a/s. we too are having di/di twins. I'm sure it will pick up eventually. I feel like I'm having the same amount as a singleton pregnancy. However not concerned. I trust my docs, and I'm grateful to be healthy.

In the first tri I probably had at least 4, then by the time I switched to my ob I was seeing her every 2 weeks and at every appt we did an u/s to check HB!! That probably isnt the norm but she felt it was necessary for my anxiety level.

I had an in office ultra sound with on once a month and one with the MFM. Then at around 30 weeks every 2 weeks I saw my ob and she listened to heart beats while I still did a once a month ultrasound with the MFM. At 34 I was living in the ob office with spots once a week. And 2 NSTs a week on top of it all.

13w, MFM (cysts re-measured)

15w, MFM (genders suggested as boys, pre-op scan)

17w, hospital (post-op scan)

18w, MFM (genders confirmed as boys)

21w, MFM (abdominal pain; turned out to be adhesions from surgery)

26w, MFM (growth scan)

30w, MFM (growth scan, checking position)

34w, MFM (suspected pre-e, checking on babies)

36w, hospital (middle of bedrest, checking position)

37w1d, hospital (confirming still head down in prep for induction)

I think there were a few more in there, but those are the ones I'm sure on... so that's at least 15 - but many of them were related to the surgery to remove my ovary at 17w.

I've also got di/di twins and had been going every 4 weeks.. now that I'm in third tri I'm starting bi-weekly's. It seems like a lot, but I have to admit, it never gets old seeing my babies on that screen!

I have had several early due to ivf and caution based on our previous losses (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 weeks). Our next one isn't for 4 weeks though and I think we'll be approx every 4 weeks afer that until closer to delivery unless there is a complication. I love seeing them all the time. Our u/s tech made a guess at gender at the 14 week scan but it was just a guess (2 girls).

We did a stimulated cycle with an IUI, so I had 5 u/s before the IUI!! lol, I know those don't count.

We had one at 6w4d and another at 7w4d and then I "graduated" from my RE to the regular OB/midwife office. I have a third one scheduled for Tuesday with them and I'll be just over 9 weeks.

I didn't get as many u/s as I think I should have had. My OB was positive I had di/di twins but I think I had mo/di twins. Anyways, I have 10w (Dating), 13w (NT scan), 20w (a/s, found out sexes), 23w (repeat a/s), 28w growth, 32w growth. I also had 2 BPPs in there somewhere because of NSTs that didn't look good. I had NSTs weekly starting at 28 weeks. I delivered at 34w4d. So I only had 8, 1 was optional and 2 were because my NSTs weren't looking good/babies didn't cooperate.

Every two weeks after week 5 with my OB, then 3 additional with the MFM. We did MaterniT21 so if we wanted, we could have a close idea as to the sexes at 12 weeks, confirmed by MFM at 13 weeks (but we are team green).

I think it really depends on the OB. I did an early to confirm viability - that's when we found the twins - at 11w since I'd had pregnancy loss. I'm having another next week (16w) to confirm mo/di, then again at 20w, and we're playing it by ear based on what we find in my next 2.

We'll definitely find out genders at the 20w, but I'm hoping they can tell next week!

So far (I'll be 14w tomorrow):
6.6w,(pregnancy confirm and found twins- possible triplet), 8.5w (confirm twins again- lost triplet) 12.2w (OB appt spotting and date confirm), 13.5w (heartbeat). Have MFM u/s every 2 wks for cervix length and twin growth check. History of PTL, pre eclampsia, and Cholestasis of pregnancy so I'm high risk anyway and now we added twins to the mix lol. These are babies #7&8 and they are di/di w fused anterior placenta. Not sure if fraternal or ID yet.

I have had so many u/s I have officially lost count. I have mo/di twins (identical/shared placenta) and my OB does ultrasounds for fetal heart tones instead of a Doppler. So we had one at 6w and found out we were having twins then 10, 12, 14 I had two 16, 18, 20w and now I'm having them every week. The scans every 2 weeks were starting at 12 once we saw that I had mo/di twins. Now I'm getting them weekly due to size differences

I think I had 7 total. I was scheduled for an 8th but gave birth two days before the appointment.

8w2d for dating (and discovery of twins), 12w2d for NT scan, 20w2d anatomy scan (found out sexes at this appointment), 23w4d growth scan, 27w4d growth scan, 31w4d growth scan and 34w4d growth scan. My final scan was supposed to be at 37w4d (the day before my scheduled c-section) but my daughter had other plans and we delivered at 37w2d.

I had one at 12w (found out twins) then 16w, 20w,24w,28w,32w and 36w. I think every dr is different...my twins were di/di, low risk, no complications.
