Car seat placement. Ended up getting ours today and when DH comes home to install it I'm wondering if it matters whether it's in the middle or on the side? Thoughts and opinions?
We had the infant in the middle but I think the convertible is going to be on the side, it will be too hard to get her in and out of the middle when she's rear facing.
Getting our convertible one installed tomorrow by a friend who is certified to install... just so he can show me ... if we can still do middle I would like to
Well I think technically the middle is the safest but they don't always fit there or aren't easy to get to buckle them in safely. You also might want to check your car's owners manual. My Cube says that I can't put a rear facing seat in the middle. It has to be on the outside (also called outboard). A forward facing seat is fine in the middle, just not the rear facing. I of course found this out only by chance when I was looking at what convertible seats would fit my car when Z was about 8 months. I never thought about checking the owners manual for a car seat install .
The safest place is where the carseat can be used safely every time. If that means outboard because it is easiest to get you child secured then that is the safest position.

We have captain seats for the 2nd row so she's behind the driver's side. I want her on the passenger side but DH ignored me and put her behind the driver.
We are on the drivers side because I can't reach into the middle. We had it in the middle of MIL's suburban this weekend and it was a PIA for me to get her in and out.

we installed in the middle. I think it's safest there if you get hit from the side, but I agree with PPs that side is totally fine if the carseat installs better there, or it is easier for you to get LO strapped in properly.
