Rock n Play vs bassinet vs swing

Hey ladies, I'm a FTM and looking for the best option for the baby to use to sleep in my room for the first few weeks. I've read lots of reviews online about pros/cons of each, but I wanted your advice.

What's your experience with these? I have friends that LOVE the RnP sleepers, but there's studies flat spots on the babies head and comments about the incline/vibration making it difficult to transition to a crib. I also want something that would work for traveling, I will have a PnP downstairs, but I wanted another option in case we are staying somewhere with not a lot of space.

Opinion/comments please :)

Thanks for your help!!

  • We have the original RnP with a noggin nest in it to prevent the "flat head" we did the same with ds1

  • btw rnp babies are not flat. they are on an angle. my PED said swings are really bad for babies to sleep in for a long stretch

  • I would not recommend having LO sleep overnight in any of them, for a few reasons but the big one is SIDS risk. It is best to have them lay flat on their back. We just use the pack n play for overnight in our room. I do love the RnP but we keep it in the living room for day time naps, since its a shorter period of time.

  • DS slept in RnP for probably longer than was safe (8ish months?) because he had horrible reflux and that was the only way we could get him to sleep without us holding him. He never had flat head issues, but no matter what you do, if they are laying on their back, they have the risk of a flat head. Just work in tummy time and do the best you can, if you start to notice problems, talk to your pedi.

  • My LO also slept in his RNP until about 6 months old because of severe reflux.  He also was swaddled and couldn't really move much, lol.  We never had flat head issues because he still turned his head from side to side.   We loved it because for two weeks after bringing him home he slept in his car seat in order for any of us to get sleep without him screaming in pain.  The RNP is classified as a bassinet and has mesh sides.  Once he was rolling & flipping and unswaddled he became a tummy sleeper and the reflux pain seemed to go away.
