What diaper pale?

I need a diaper pale for the nursery but not sure what I want...I don't want a diaper geenie or something that requires me to buy special bags. Just something that will help contain the odor until I can take it outside and isn't too expensive. Any suggestions?

Re: What diaper pale?

  • we will be getting the diaper champ from Target.  It doesn't require special bags, just regular ones.

I just added this to my registry!  Thank you :) I want one that uses regular bags too!

  • We will be using our arm and hammer diaper pail. You're supposed to use special liners but we just kept the ring and fit regular trash bags around it.

I had a Diaper Champ and a Diaper Genie with DS.  The only complaint I have about both (and would probably have about any diaper pail) is that they start to smell really bad after a while.  BF poops aren't bad but if you FF or when you start to feed LO solids their poops begin to stink and the pails tend to keep in the odors.  We now just wrap then in plastic grocery bags and throw them in the trash.
yeah I'm getting some of the little arm & hammer fresheners to keep in the bottom of the pail to hopefully help with this problem.
  • I have the Ubbi on our registry, but a coworker offered to give us her 3 yr old diaper genie- so if we don't get the one on our registry, we will likely use that!
  • I also have the Ubbi on my registry. I like the fact that it uses any kitchen sized bags.

  • We have the Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail by Munchkin. Bought at Target.  It DOES use its own bags, but they are really inexpensive & I have found I can get a huge value box at Walmart of refill bags. So buying them is not a huge cost (like Diaper Genie ones) & they are conveniently available. We just take it out when it is full & never have an issue with smell.

WIsh I could buy another one, but Ds will be potty training soon so I cannot justify it for use for such a short period of time. (fingers crossed potty training doesn't take too long once we really push it) :)

  • The Ubbi is on sale at Bloomingdales right now... 40% off! I just ordered it yesterday. You can use any bag with it :)
  • We plan to cloth diaper, and are just using a flip-top kitchen trash can (with a washable pail liner in it).  Not sure if that would contain enough smell for disposables though.

  • We have a diaper champ and will use it again for this baby. We just get the kitchen garbage bags from Costco, they work great.
  • I had a Diaper Genie with #1 and hated it. We just threw the diapers in the trash. In my opinion, a diaper pail is not necessary.

  • wow @Mommy128, thank you so much for the heads-up...I had the Ubbi on our registry but that price is even better than Black Friday deals. Just bought it myself! Thanks : )

  • @Mommy128 awesome find!  I just ordered mine from Nordstrom using a price match (wanted the free shipping).

I had wanted one but ended up putting the Dekor on my registry b/c I felt guilty asking for an $80 diaper pail.

Same here. We just throw diapers in the trash.

  • We have the Diaper Champ.  I don't love it but don't hate it.  I have found it works best when you use the flexbags with some sort of scent (Febreze scent, lemon scent).  Also, once your child's poop is solid, dumping the poop into the toilet before rolling up the diaper and tossing it keeps the odors at bay.
  • @cdalloway and @lorlor681
You're welcome! I mistakenly said it is 40% off, when it is actually 50% off. Can't get any better than that! Couldn't pass it up :)

We registered for the Ubbi. You can use regular trash bags with it, and it comes in a bunch of cute colors. Must have cute diaper receptacle.
We're getting the Ubbi too, have heard it's the best!

  • Someone gave me a diaper genie.  I found something on pinterest that tells you how to use regular trash bags.  I am going to try it out and see how it goes.

  • Theres a safety first one sold at babies r us that doesnt require special bags and has a compartment at top where ill put the arm and hammer fresheners...and store it right next to nursery in the bathroom just in case ;) its also cheap
  • Dh insisted we get something to keep by the changing table...I just wanted to use the kitchen trash or take them to the big can in the garage. We compromised w a smallish 10 L simple human stainless steel can for the nursery. I plan on tying them off in plastic grocery bags before we stick them in. I heard stainless holds smells better than plastic. We will see how it goes. Btw, the can was only $39, has the foot pedal and quiet close lid, and I used my 20 off coupon. We can use it elsewhere after we are done w it in the nursery.
  • I just grabbed the Ubbi on Nordstrom with the price match, too!!  Thanks ladies!!

Just wanted to say THANKS to both of you! I called Nordstrom and placed my order about 5 minutes ago. Only $42 after tax with free shipping...what a great deal!
  • Does the diaper genie suck then? That's what I registered for because it got fine reviews but now you ladies have me worried

Just bought the one from Bloomingdales, quite the deal. If it doesn't work, at least I paid half price.
