PG with 2U2--Lifting

Hi Ladies! DH and I found out this week that we are expecting our 2nd child. We currently have a 4 month old, so our children will be 13 months apart :) We are over the moon!

I am VERY concerned about lifting DS. He is only 16 lbs, so not too heavy, but when he is in his carseat, its like another 10lbs. It is a lot to lift, and I know with my 1st pregnancy everyone made sure I wasn't lifting too much. There really is no way for me NOT to have to lift him, but I am concerned its too much--what did you all do? Someone please ease my fears!

Thanks :)

  • we were advised if it is a complication free pregnancy that if you are used to doing it it should not be a problem, just make sure lifting technique is correct as easier to pull something

  • Generally if you were doing it before pregnancy, you're body is used to it and you can continue doing it during pregnancy. My girls currently weigh about 32lbs and 24lbs and I have not changed how often I lift/carry them.

I just gave birth to #3 (under 3) and I was lifting my 25lb 19 mo old and 35 lb 35mo old regularly. Not carrying the older one for any real length of time, but basically doing what I could throughout the pregnancy and when it hurt, I stopped.

People are very cautious with first time pregnant women... Once you have kids, you don't really have a choice!

  • You should be fine.  When I was pg with #3, I had a few times when both big kids were having temper tantrums and required me to carry them both (kicking and screaming) out to the car at the playground.  We survived, DD#2 is fine, and she was born at 39 weeks.
    Good luck!

  • I always use my snap and go stroller rather than carrying baby in the carrier.  Also park next to cart corrals so you don't have to carry the carrier as far.  I am 33 weeks pregnant and still lift both of my children.  I try not to carry my 2 year old since she's gotten quite heavy.
