Hitting.

Some of my husband's family thought it was oh so funny to teach my daughter to hit - in the face. Now when she hits they laugh and make it a big thing so she thinks it's funny and okay. She's now hitting other kids and she hits me nonstop. Nothing I do seems to stop her. I even let another kid hit her back thinking she'd see it hurt she just did it more. It's driving me nuts and I'm at the end of my rope. I'm pregnant with number 2 and worry about her hitting the baby.

Re: Hitting.

  • I don't have great advice, but how frustrating! What if you put her down when she hits and walk away? That would most certainly crush her feelings and after a few times, maybe she'll get it? Just a thought!

  • We're dealing with some bad habits we're trying to break -- hitting is one of them.  I'm trying a stern "No!" followed by putting him down and disengaging.  Not sure if it's effective...but that's what we're trying.

  • Thank you ladies. I never thought about disengaging her for a while. I'm definitely going to give it a try. It's do frustrating bc she was taught this she didn't pick it up at the playground you know.
  • We are having the same problem with hitting.  Wesley thinks it's funny so when he hits, we tell him a stern no and if he does it again I put him down and walk away.  He seems to be responding to this as he is not hitting as much as he used to.  Good luck. That is awful that your husbands family taught her that.

  • Some people=just wow.
LO has been hitting my face or she seems to swing at me when I try to take something away from her that's she's totally going for. I'm not sure where she's learned it from but I think it may be from what a pp said..the action of blowing kisses. She's also been grabbing my glasses right off my face grrrr thank god I got new ones when she was born!
The disengaging sounds like a great idea, if you can handle the sad lip face..
